Yep some machines are oldies but goodies aren't they? I have a Singer sewing machine bought in 1985 that is still going strong!!!!

The bag is gorgeous!!! Perfect for the occasion - you deserve to be proud!

27  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Four fat quarters and a piece of orange on: April 03, 2009 07:03:26 PM
I was in a quilt shop one day and 4 fat quarters in gold tones took my fancy. Gold is not usually my fancy but these looked good together so a purchase was made! I used three of them to make a simple small tote shape bag. I was then, of course left with one fat quarter and the inevitable pile of scraps that you end with that you simply cannot throw away and which must go into the scrap stash because you are sure they will be useful for some other project!!!! As I started to put the pieces into the scrap stash I thought why not work the other way immediately so the scraps stayed out, the fat quarter that was over stayed out and a small piece of orange fabric came out of the scrap stash. With thanks to heartofmary and her patchwork bag tutorial a second bag was born almost straight away (the piece of orange is hidden in the second bag as the bottom part of the lining).
Two bags and less in the scrap stash than more - a success I felt!

Thanks for the pattern info sewfumust. I thought it was a pattern I have. I actually prefer your alteration without the D rings and with the addition of the button trim!! Don't you just love those bags that hold everything? The only trouble is when you go to lift 'em and swing 'em over your shoulder - then you sometimes have second thoughts about "ooh a bag that will hold everything would be great". Never mind I'm off to the fabric stash to see what might become McCalls 5599 View C in my bag collection!!!

Ooooh that fabric is gorgeous! The bag is a stunner recession buster or not!
PS What was the pattern number?

Well apart from the fact that the bag is gorgeous I checked out the site and discovered I am even more impressed because the instructions are in Japanese!!!!!!!
