1  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / AUSTRALIA / Re: Stitch'n'Bitch in Brisbane?<<NOW ORGANISED>> details on page 2 on: February 02, 2009 05:52:57 PM
hey sorry about last week & unfortunately I can't make it tonight either. I've got men here creating a functional bathroom for me ... so I think I'll be at the gym tonight ... perhaps I'll see you next week.

It wasn't a problem, I was there with my friend & we had a nice time just talking. I did see one of the guys from the Japanese group as we were leaving.

I'm meeting my friend again on Tuesday then I'm coming ... either to sit myself down with you or the Japanese people ... it depends on if she wants to come with me & if I can get myself organised. My mum gave me a sewing machine for Christmas (my old one was older than me), I'd love to show you the bag I made.

Also all of my boxes have arrived from Japan, I'll bring the books that I thought you would be interested in.

Hope to see you soon.

Thanks Miss Vicki, it was nice meeting you also. I came this last Tuesday too ... I took my Japanese friend to meet the Japanese people ... but we didn't see them ... I didn't see you guys either ... oh well ... we just sat and had tea. When will the next meet be after Christmas?

[ ... ] < insert guilt here ...

I'm back in Australia. The plane didn't even touch down before I was wishing I was back in the land of the rising sun. [ sad face ]

I'm studying Japanese every day so that when I return things will be a little more comfortable for me.
5  ASIA / Japan / Re: How do you write "Mika" in Japanese? on: December 08, 2008 05:23:29 AM
In Katakana it would be ミカ。Which is very easy but not so beautiful.
Like my crafty ways said there are many kanji for any given syllable.
My Japanese isn't great
I recommend having a look at a kanji web page ... these links have the standard way of writing the kanji and kanji calligraphy.

Mi = 実 = real

魅 charm

見 = look see watch

Ka = 化 change http://www.yamasa.cc/members/ocjs/kanjidic.nsf/SortedByKanji2THEnglish/%E5%8C%96?OpenDocument
克 = conquest

火 = fire

maybe "watch change" (see her change) or "real fire" would be nice

I prefer to write my own name in Katakana タラ in Kanji my stamp is 多羅 which means something like "a lot of silk gauze"
I made these before I went to Japan:

Thanks for the reply. Only 2 weeks until I come home. It will be nice to meet some new people.
7  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 30 ENTRIES / Mario DS Cozy on: September 03, 2008 09:48:58 PM

This cozy protects my DS lite. I'm a fan of old school games. I love the New Super Mario Bros. so much more than the new 3D Mario games. So 2D Mario jumping to get the gold coin is a perfect cozy to protect my DS.

I like the colour & the sleeves are so cute. That's a great first sweater.

I'm still too intimidated to try large projects.
10  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Re: Drawings. on: August 14, 2008 05:37:03 AM
Everyday I oscillate between loving it & hating it. Today I love it. I went to Okazaki with one of my students and had a wonderful time. But other days I can't forget that I'm not Japanese & culture shock is overwhelming.
