2  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Monsters in matchboxes as birthday treats on: June 27, 2012 12:34:20 PM
My son is in preschool and needed a healthy birthday treat as they have more birthdays to celebrate and we don't want to stuff the 2 and 3 y/o with candy and cake  Wink So I made them little monsters in cute little beds made from matchboxes.
It's not my original idea (I wish it was) but no, I stole the idea from http://indulgy.com/post/jOmgErwJ61/matchbox-monsters#/do/page/1

Here they are:

And in their beds:

Well, I like them...I hope the kids don't prefer cake  Wink
3  CLOTHING / Shoes: Completed Projects / Zentangled shoes on: May 07, 2012 06:48:40 AM

So I had this pair of really really cheap shoes in my closet and I was on the point of throwing them away as I never wear white and probably never will (unless I ever accept a job in a hospital which is very unlikely for so many reasons  Wink).
Then I thought about some zentangles I recently made on paper and thought why not on these shoes?..
I used a simple waterproof black marker I had lying around.

After starting I remembered I should take a "before" picture:

Et voil!

Now I wear these shoes almost daily; love them (and so happy I didn't throw them away)!
4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Dutch swap? on: January 16, 2012 04:43:02 AM

In the Dutch forum we briefly talked about doing a Dutch swap, so only for Craftsters living in the Netherlands. Some of us might even be able to exchange packages in real life!
Who'd be interested? And how many points would you like this to be?
I'd be happy to organize  Grin

5  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / First time carding on: September 13, 2011 11:09:34 AM
This summer I visited smallhold and I finally get to post pics of the wonderful crafty afternoon we had.
One of her neighbours has a drum carder and as I still had some uncarded fleece left we decided to give it a try;

And it took us a little time to find out this was probably not the right way of using it..

Some of the wool, before and after carding:

And someone who was checking if we were doing it right:

And smallhold also learned how to use a drop spindle!  Cheesy

6  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Autumn Elise shawl dyed with red and yellow onion skins (lots of pics!) on: September 01, 2011 01:22:22 PM

This has been my big summer project and I'm happy to be able to share it with you now!  Cheesy

It all started with a lucky girl who was given a raw fleece of local sheep (sorry don't know what kind of sheep):

And then I started spinning most of the white wool on my drop spindle. I left some brown/grey pieces in it on purpose, for a nice effect.

and spinning..

And after days of almost non-stop spinning I had 10 skeins of (almost) white yarn.

At our local greengrocer I've been collecting onion skins, because after eating onion soup, pasta with onions, onion bread, etc...I thought this would be a quicker way  Wink
And with some help from internet and the book Wild Colour (can be found on Amazon) I started dyeing...
I used iron and alum mordant to prepare the fibers and then yellow skins for yellow/orange and red skins for a green colour.

Et voil, le rsultat:

The more orange coloured one on the left is made with iron mordant + yellow skins.
The greens are beautiful moss green, but somehow my camera won't catch the right colour.

On my holiday in the North of France I started the real work. First, making workable balls of yarn.

And then the crocheting! I used the "Elise shawl" pattern from Ravelry, but in stead of adding the picot edging I decided to make it more my own style and made braids at both ends with knots (sorry, don't know the appropiate English term, but you see what I mean  Wink)

and done! (shown by the legal heir of the shawl  Wink)

And this is how I'll be wearing it (it looks a bit small this way, because part of it is folded):

Merci et au revoir!
7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Pyjama/lounge pants swap? on: August 15, 2011 03:40:48 AM

Who'd be interested in a pyjama/lounge pants swap?

I was thinking of making one or 2 pair of pyjama pants (option given in the questionnaire) and sending a little snack/tea for example along.

I'd be happy to organize!

9  CROCHET / Crochetalongs / Babette blanket crochetalong? on: May 05, 2011 10:41:34 AM

While looking for granny square patterns I accidently found this one and I just have to make one!
Anyone who's also (planning to) making this blanket? We can motivate each other and share pictures of our progress and finally our completed blankets.
The pattern can be found on Ravelry: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/babette-blanket.

I -to be honest- don't use the pattern (just refuse to pay for what I can make with some common sense  Roll Eyes) but printed the picture of the whole blanket and divided it in 10 sections with a colour pencil.

This is what I made so far:

and 2 more after taking this picture.

10  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Fiber Friday: March 11 on: March 11, 2011 12:11:45 AM
My first Fiber Friday post  Cheesy
I was recently given a whole fleece from a Dutch (multple coloured) sheep. As it's so much I have plenty to experiment with, so I tried spinning some without separating the colours and without washing, carding or dyeing. I washed it after spinning... I don't know if that's 'not done', but just wanted to try. Somehow spinning uncarded wool seems easier than carded. Anyhow, I pretty much like the result.

With my spindle:

And close up:

Any remarks/tips regarding my 'unconventional' way of working?.. Roll Eyes
