I received two packages today!  Cheesy The first I opened is the cute little scrappy stocking from Sparkledust.

(the two little bells came off in the mail, I'll sew them back on before hanging it in the tree  Wink)

And I received these super sweet slippers from Plumcrafty:

And she sent along some nice whimsical thingies and a fantastic postcard (which is not in the picture).

Thanks ladies!

24  Re: Sweat Shoppe ORNAMENT Swap Round 3 (signups closed, Send by Nov 5) in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by IdlersDesign on: November 05, 2012 02:04:01 AM
Oh and because I only posted an image of my inspiration and not yet of my own crafted ones...Here are the ones that will go to the PO this morning.

First I made the bodies out of poly clay, but then they were so heavy that your tree would fall if you'd hang it in it  Roll Eyes, so I crocheted them. Much better  Wink
(but what to do now with 10 clay gnome bodies without head?... Tongue)

I took Giles on a local tourist tour. We live next to a mill that's also a museum:

And inside a very old kitchen

Although the mill itself was used for grinding grain, this horse mill was used for gunpowder  Wink

And today we visited the Burcht (according to Wikipedia the English name is a "shell keep". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burcht_van_Leiden). It's in the middle of the city and dates from the 11th century.

On top you have a wonderful view

Oh and did you notice Giles has a new outfit? It's getting cold here so he really needed something to keep him warm  Wink

Thursday, I went up to my Mom's to help her with her housework. (She's sick with pneumonia so I told her I would come up and for her to REST!!) While I was there, she asked me to carve her pumpkin for her.
It looks like fun! I've never tried carving a pumpkin (but I've made a lot of pumkin soups and pies). Next time when I buy one I'll give it a try.

Hope your mum feels better!

We went to the beach today

and Giles made a sand castle.

And in the afternoon there was fabric market in the city center

I spend an afternoon in Amsterdam yesterday. I do that sometimes in a school holiday, just for fun and to discover the city.

When you walk to Leiden railway station you first see the bike "parking".

And this is Amsterdam Central station:

Just a small street.  The houses are so old that they are askew. (because they were built on sometimes even wooden pilings in the past)

Did you know some (mainly American, sorry  Wink) tourists think Amsterdam is not real, but more like an attraction parc for tourists? Just because there are so many beautiful houses and canals.  Wink

And I found a very nice little quilt shop where I bought these cute fat quarters of fabric for PFD ...(M, hope you like!)

This morning we made apfelstrudel. As my SO doesn't like raisins I replaced them with cranberries, the filling smelled so good! We started with a small surface of dough...

And with the help of a youtube video (I never made strudel before) made it into a big transparant sheet of dough. Here the filling is on it.

After I rolled it up and put it in the oven the big disaster happened....
My son had to go to the potty 5 times and I had to help him each time. And I forgot the strudel that I in top of the oven for the last 5 minutes. The baking paper caught flame and I could rush to stop it just in time. Result: a black strudel.  Shocked Cry
(it looked too terrible to take a photo)

So, the good news is that we still have about 4 kilos of apples left, so I can try again soon  Roll Eyes

So, today we went apple picking in a huge orchard in the area.

And as Giles couldn't stop so we brought 5 kilos  Wink

After the Apfelstrudel that I'm making tomorrow there'll be so many left, so if you have a nice recipe with apples..let me know  Wink

I'm saving some for the album but here's a few of Ihaka's photos from the visit to the botanical gardens today. As you can clearly see, even in late October, things are very green and very lush here!

Did you know I have a thing for botanical gardens (I visit them wherever I can, I've even been in the one in Calcutta, India) or do we just have similar taste?   Cheesy
Fantastic to see all these tropical plants and trees so full of green. And just when Ihaka visited NZ I wonder...why haven't I squeezed myself into the envelope in stead of him?  Wink

Oh and we didn't have big adventures today, but it was a warm autumn day (around 20 degrees C) so we enjoyed city centre with an ice cream. Here, when there's a bit of sun, people sit on the terrace of bars and have coffee or a beer. Sometimes they even sit under a blanket...as long as there's sun.
On the right you see the terraces (on boats) of our city centre and on the left is a part of city hall.

We took Giles to Gent in Belgium this weekend...

and we enjoyed the beautiful city, the water and of course a good Belgian beer in the Bierhuis (beerhouse) on the other side of the river.

Then Giles wanted to sit on this huge cannon that dates from the Middle Ages. Oh and apparently someone put some kind of orange monster in it  Roll Eyes

And we had a look at this beautiful castle that also dates from early middle ages.

Oh and Giles even sent a postcard to Phoenixfiredesigns  Wink
