I was so impressed by this contest and all of the wonderful entries last year, I thought I'd give it a try! My house is inspired by Charles Schulz's Peanuts Comic, which always gives a fun twist to the holidays. Enjoy!
The Finished Project. Below is a description of how it was done:
Everything started with a simple cardboard mock up. Once that was stable, it was OK to start baking!
Here is the house made out of gingerbread. It is held together by a bunch of "cement" frosting.
The next step was to cover the entire house in homemade fondant, which provides a "canvas" of sorts.
The house was then painted red and decorations were added. The paint is concentrated food dye, which was also used to color the decorations (all made out of piped frosting).
Snoopy is made completely out of homemade fondant, and the snow is white frosting and powdered sugar.
The door is also painted on with a dark mixture of food dyes.
I particularly like Snoopy's nose!
A view of the back.
In total, construction took three days. This was my first time baking homemade gingerbread and making a gingerbread house, so I now have a HUGE respect for people who do this project every year!
Thanks for taking a look, and please ask questions about the methods! Happy Holidays!
