these are wonderful costumes....I wonder if you would share the construction steps to making the French Hood

Gosh... I find myself struggling to recall! Tongue I know there had to be a pattern or website that I followed, I don't generally just "wing it" unless I've tried a bunch of things and get so frustrated I just throw something together.

Aha! Found it: http://www.elizabethancostume.net/headwear/fhoodmake.html  I used the 1533 version IIRC. I also used Lynn McMasters' site for hairdo tips and decoration inspiration. http://lynnmcmasters.com/newfrenchhood.html Two of my favorite costuming resources. Smiley HTH!

Fantastic job!  Just stunning.

Thank you! Smiley
4  SEWING IN GENERAL / Machine Embroidery: Discussion and Questions / Machine Embroidery that looks like Cowboy Boot Stitching? on: December 13, 2012 03:08:49 PM
Hey everybody! Smiley I'm trying to find a machine embroidery pattern download that looks like Cowboy Boot stitching. Like this pic here:

See the stitching along the front and sides of the boot? Something along those lines. I've been through the quilting patterns (since I can't find anything under boot stitching) over at emblibrary.com which is typically my go-to for embroidery patterns but can't find anything similar. Does anyone here perhaps know of another site that might carry something similar to what I have posted?

If I can't find a good pattern, I'll probably have to free-hand it which I'd prefer to avoid doing since it's a Christmas stocking and I'm getting short on time... lol.

Thanks for any help/advice! Smiley

ETA - Oh yeah, I'm looking for a VIP format.

You must be some kind of Jill-of-all-trades.

Heh, something like that. Master of none that's for sure. I call it my CADD (Crafting Attention Deficit Disorder). Never stay focused on anything for very long and I have boxes upon boxes of WIPs.

Thank you for your kind words. Smiley

Ooh, this is absolutely GORGEOUS!  My first thought was that it (in any iteration) would make an absolutely lovely tattoo...but all my favorite logos make good tattoos!  I bet your client is very happy!

Yeah, I definitely considered the tattoo idea too! And I'm the client, so yeah, I would say I am. Wink Which is actually really hard because (like most every artist) I'm my own worst critic. Tongue

It's gorgeous! I love it.

Thank you! Smiley

(ETA finished product for front page... been so long I've posted, I forgot about that!)

Hey guys,

Haven't posted in this side of the forum very often, but I wanted to show off my latest work. Smiley It started out conventionally with a random idea of 2 phoenixes and a pack of oil and chalk pastels. And I'll show how I kind've evolved it into the finished product (keep in mind I haven't picked up a pastel since the 3rd grade, so bear with my noobishness here Tongue).

I decided that I wanted to add an element of music to it, so I decided that I wanted the blue phoenix to be slightly reminiscent of a treble clef. So I kinda started playing around with that idea....

But I liked the simplicity of the first doodle so I backed off a little on the scribbles. I also *really* got excited about the idea of turning one into a "typical" phoenix of fire and another phoenix of water. The two phoenixes are supposed to represent my partner and I. I am very fiery and really identify a lot with the imagery of a phoenix, whereas he is much more of a water sign. And I wanted the two to also be twisted around the other since our creative process is very give and take and him doing things that inspire me and me doing things that inspire him... we feed off each other and produce the most amazing things due to that. Smiley

So I really liked that one. Smiley Input into photoshop and mask out the image with a black background, smooth it out a little:

And the finished website banner. <3

But yeah, so I'm *really* proud of it. It's my first logo work but I think it's pretty good if I do say so myself (although I'm no expert, so C&C is much appreciated!). It was really easy to create a black and white version as well for letterheads and stamps and such. Plus the business cards look very awesome. Smiley

I'm not intending to advertise the business here, just show off the artwork and share my creative process. Smiley

ETA - Decided to upload just the background to the business cards because I just simply love the effect I did.
