1  DIY Love Lights in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by NiinaMaria on: February 13, 2015 12:40:29 PM
Don't you just love cheap and fast crafts? I bought bunch of these cute cupcake cups(?!?)
and came up with the idea to turn them into cute fairy lights. I had some leftover LEDs from
Christmas decorating so the total cost for the whole project was 5 euros and that includes the
lights.

I sent the set to my god-daughter and lined inside the box with some pretty pink paper:

2  Lalaloopsy Outfits in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by NiinaMaria on: January 31, 2015 10:32:59 AM
My friend's kids are really into a kids' show called Lalaloopsy. I think it's already old news in US but it just started showing here in Finland. I helped my friend to find some Lala- toys on Ebay, since there isn't that much available over here and that hunting inspired me to make couple of outfits for the girls to play Lalaloopsies themselves!

I used an H&M T-shirts as bases for the tops. Changed the sleeves to puffy ones and added some vintage fabric-covered buttons and a ruffle. The skirt (and the sleeves) are made of vintage fabric from the 60s.

Sorry about the blurry Instagram-photos. Here's one of the girls wearing her outfit:

3  Valentine's Day Wall Art in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by NiinaMaria on: January 30, 2015 06:11:08 AM
I had a brief debate myself about which category this project belongs in but since I altered two cheap wall art pieces, I figured this would be the correct one.
Couple of weeks ago I found some wall art pieces I first were going to use for another project but since Valentine's Day is coming up and I had tons of this Crate Paper-collection in stash, I thought it would be good time to do something pink & cute!

There are couple of detail shots in my blog https://thriftyfinn.wordpress.com/2015/01/30/valentines-day-wall-art/. Hope you like this!

4  Sunny Vintage Quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by NiinaMaria on: November 22, 2014 06:16:10 AM

This quilt was long time coming. I collected the fabrics, both vintage and vintage vibe-y, for over four years.
Finally, in last August, I pulled myself together and went for it! I decided on basic square pattern and simple
stitching and got to work. I made the quilt for my bed and its 200cm wide and 220cm long. Go big or go home.
Since back then I didn't know there was quilting services available in Finland, I improvised the batting from basic sheets,
so I could quilt it with my basic sewing machine. The total cost for everything was about 100 euros. I think
it's rather good price for a quilt that size.
Here are the pics:

When I had my first blocks ready.

The binding, made from a vintage sheet.

Finished. An outside shot to show the correct colours.

Finished and on my bed!

Frequently Asked Questions:
Would you make another quilt?
- No, not anytime soon.

5  DIY Instagram Art in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by NiinaMaria on: November 18, 2014 05:57:22 AM
You know how boring it is to make stuff to oneself? Well, thanks to my genius self and a little nudge from my friend I managed to combine 3 things in one project! I actually finished pimping something I bought from a thrift store with a plan to "pimp it someday", I got use out of my Instagram-account AND got some lovely memories of Paris up on my wall. Here's the before:

Here are the finished pieces:

They are really easy and cheap to make. Just some simple MDF-art pieces, spray paint and prints out done at the library. The total cost was under 10 euros, including the spray paint. Here's the link http://thriftyfinn.wordpress.com/2014/11/18/diy-instagram-art/ to the semi-tutorial and here's the link http://thriftyfinn.wordpress.com/2014/11/18/freebie-paris-printables/ to the free printables you can use to make your own.

Hope you like them!

6  Re: Craft with a Fat Quarter Swap Gallery (SO 4/18/11) in The Swap Gallery by NiinaMaria on: April 23, 2011 12:41:46 PM
My partner Opalgryphon is the bestest! First of all, her choice of FQs to send me are just perfect.
Alexander Henry bird fabric and a green with polka dots. I already know it's going to take a while
before I bear to cut them.

Here they are:

Then the main article: A travel embroidery kit! Love it, love it, love it. It's pretty and I really
needed one. Words can't do justice to this. The fabric combinations, the clever presentation...
Oh my. Whee! And bunch of happy words go in here.

Here's the pics:

I'm very, very pleased with what I received. Opalgryphon deserves AWESOME in her feedback.

8  Sheer Blouse in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by NiinaMaria on: March 15, 2011 10:24:31 AM
LAst weekend saw something miraculous happen...I made something for myself! Woohoo! The pattern was by Burda and I added sleeves as I'm not too keen to display my bingo wings. I think the sleeves work really well with the material I chose; dark blue sheer polka dot shifong.

Hemming, ruffles and sleeves

Comments and criticism would be great. I spent 5,50 euros on materials and the pattern can be found in Burda 4/2010.

10  European Easter Egg Swap in New Swap Theme Ideas by NiinaMaria on: February 26, 2011 04:58:54 AM
I just spotted the US Easter Egg- swap and thought, CANDY! So here's my idea; everyone crafts an papier mache egg, pimps it really cool and then fills it with candy. Haven't thought about the size but I think lengthwise 20cm could be nice. Anyone interested?

Here are some pics from the interwebs for inspiration...

Then some filler inspiration...

I've thought about the requirements:
Either craft an egg and fill it with candy OR
Buy one of those ready eggs, fill it with 2 point craft and candy. How does that sound?
