1  CLOTHING / Shoes: Discussion and Questions / Dying shoes with black ink? on: March 20, 2009 02:26:16 PM
I bought those prom shoes that you dye  to match your dress at a thrift store. They were already dyed a gross yellow color, and I decided to dye them black using waterproof Sanford Indian Ink. However, it runs a little bit when i put them under the faucet (as a test so that I don't step in a puddle and ink up someone's carpet). How do I seal them so that the ink doesn't run anymore.
The shoes are all satiny, and I don't want to ruin the texture.

My first thought was eww.... gross...

Then it quickly transferred over to thinking about what great bachelorette party gifts these would be....

and now I'm thinking about how I go to a Christian University with a lot of uptight people and how I should give them as random gifts to them! (I think one of my not-so-uptight friends would get a kick out of this)

I know you said that spraypaint was messy and unprofessional looking, but what about an airbrush? I have a couple of those that I've never used, and it would be cool to try.
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: another vintage dress!!! PIC HEAVY on: July 26, 2008 11:30:20 PM
Its gorgeous! I know so many girls at my college that would wear that! I love the glasses that make it seem so utterly 50s.

This is amazing! I would buy it (if I had money, haha) but it looks really great! did you hand embroider, or does your sewing machine have a setting?
6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: Apron inspired dress on: July 17, 2008 11:10:48 PM
I told my mom I wanted to start making my own clothes (I'm 21 mind you), and she gave me the wierdest look, like I have no fashion sense or something. She likes the popular preppy stuff, and I like a more... well.. unique look.

Good job on the apron dress. It looks fantastic.
7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: The Shorts Jumpsuit With Potential on: July 15, 2008 10:32:15 PM
I saw an outift just like that at the thrift store, nasty shorts coverall type thing, in a pretty fabric. I looked at the shorts, proclaimed, "I can't do anything with that!" and put them back.
I think I'll go nab them tomorrow.

I'll say first that you did a very good job making the dress. It looks pretty solid and is a very nice finished product.
I just don't think it flatters your body type. It makes your hips look like your trying to hide them. To make it better, i think you should pull it in and dart it until your hips, and then let it loose.
Sorry if this seems rude, but like I said, you did a wonderful job on the dress, and it would look good on a certain body type, but I don't think it works to  it's full potential  on you.

That's adorable! You should post an action shot.
10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: My new Swimsuit on: July 14, 2008 08:49:26 PM
This is adorable! I am in the middle of making a swimsuit (sewing by hand, no less!) but I can't come up with a cute style for a one piece. It's so vintage!
