3  COOKING / Dessert / Fairy Cake on: August 05, 2013 08:02:52 AM
So it was my daughter's 5th Birthday on the weekend and she wanted a Fairy theme this year (see http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=426252.0#axzz2b6g1lzRE).

So off we went to the library, we borrowed a bunch of cake books and combined that with Pinterest research and she finally decided on "the cake" out of one of the Library books (which I can not for the life of me remember the name of). Anyway, the instructions were great but of course my attempt probably looks nothing like it but hey, I was pretty happy with it in the end.

What a massive job it was though. Five separate cakes (two normal sized at the bottom layer and three mini, which I only had one tin for, for the tower) plus crumb coats, icing and decorating = the whole day making a cake! So worth it though to see the look on my girl's face. Smiley

Thanks for reading! Smiley
4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Home-made Fairy Party (image heavy) on: August 05, 2013 07:51:12 AM
Soooo... I haven't posted in forever!

It was my daughter's 5th Birthday on the weekend and we had a Fairy Themed party this year. Two parties in one day is a killer though! (one School friends party and the other, Family).

This was the set up for the food table. I made the tulle puffs that you see hanging (lots and lots and lots of tulle puffs!) and the cloud/rainbow(tulle again). The cloud was just a simple wire shape covered in Polyfill - easy peasy! The tablecloth was just those cheapy plastic one's that you get in a packet, taped and pleated (thanks Pinterest!). I also made the giant flowers on the table and we had those scattered around the place.

The Fairy Activities area. We had this Bed Canopy that I bought in Bali years ago that hubby would never let me put up(something about holes in the ceiling, grumble, grumble) so I was excited I finally had a use for it! It made the perfect area to play the games under. I had sequins, glitter glue, pencils, Fairy and Castle cut outs and pre-prepared foam wands for the kids to decorate and take home. This turned out to be the perfect ice-breaker activity and kept them all occupied whilst we waited for everyone to arrive. We also had a game of "Musical Toadstools" - see the toadstools all over the floor? They were just cheap plastic place-mats with round label stickers stuck on for spots! Worked a treat!

Cake #1 for the Kindergarten kids party. All went perfect with this one until the darn icing slid! Sad Oh well, the kids didn't notice and it still tasted great.

Last but not least -  The Fairy Cake. This baby took pretty much all day to bake and decorate! I was pretty pleased how it turned out in the end and the Birthday Girl was thrilled.

If you're still here after all my babbling - thanks for reading! Smiley
