51  Turkish Vest & Belt made of Can Tabs for Bellydancing!! (pic bloated) in Costumes: Completed Projects by mieljolie on: November 20, 2008 11:10:05 AM
Just another bizarre (yet wonderful) thing to do with can tabs

I recently finished a new "tabistry" project for Craftster swap Bellydance Swap II (gallery = http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=275620.0).  I made a Turkish Vest and Belt out of soda and beer can pull tabs.  I'm pretty please with how they turned out and wanted to show them off.  So, here's the swap vest and belt:

I also made myself a vest as a prototype:

And, here are some newer pics after a few modifications:

And, one more of my recent costume:

Hope you like!  I'd love to hear what you think.  Thanks for lookin'!

To see more pics of these vests, the belt or other tabistry projects, see my blog:  http://tabistry.blogspot.com/2008/11/turkish-style-vest-and-belt.html

Lovely belt, paperwings.

Thought I'd post a pic of part of what I sent to Star217 until she gets a chance to post.  I sent a turkish vest/belt set made of can tabs.  I also sent a can tab flower pin, remnant of bright pink fabric and some ribbon, and a couple old foreign coins I had from India, but I didn't take pics of any of that stuff.  (I forgot I also sent about 4 pair of star patterned shoelaces I thought she could use for lacing up the vest and belt if she chose to.)

For more pics, see my blog here:  http://mieljolie.blogspot.com/2008/11/turkish-style-vest-and-belt.html

I'm anxiously awaiting my package from Star217.  It should arrive by tomorrow, hopefully.

53  Nibbles the Pygmy Puff Pouch (KK knitted) in Knitting: Completed Projects by mieljolie on: November 14, 2008 10:18:33 AM
My first completed project on a knifty knitter loom.

I made a pygmy puff inspired by Harry Potter for my daughter.  She named it "Nibbles" 'cuz he loves to eat things like fingers.  Smiley

I made it on the blue loom with dollar store furry yarn.  I turned it like you would the band of a beanie so it is double thick.  So, he's built like a giant scrunchy with an elastic hairband in the mouth and a hairclip inside to attach it to your shoulder.  He doubles as a pouch to hide things in.

54  Re: 1st finger knitting (weaving) projects using all ten fingers!! - scarves in Weaving: Completed Projects by mieljolie on: November 06, 2008 11:40:34 AM
...I think I will "knit" another one and then combine the two somehow...and then add tassels.  It's kind of skinny otherwise...

I know.  They are really skinny on one hand.  I also tried weaving the single hands together like this:

But, I haven't made anything wearable, yet.  Might make a nice throw.

Happy Day!!  Happy day!!  I received from cigarettesandvalentines today!

NOTE:  I had to take the pics outside cuz of this weird camera that loves to oversaturate everything in our cave lighting.

Unopened box - It was the most difficult picture to take.  All three of us (me, mom, and daughter) hovered over it while the camera charged.  Smiley

The first thing I pulled out was a letter and the awesome Alexander Henryvintagey jol/black cat fabric piece.  It's bigger/wider than the pic is.  We're talking about making a couple trick-or-treat bags for the kids to use.  That is, if I can muster the courage to cut it up.  I just love it like it is!  Would it be wrong to just frame and hang it?  Smiley

Then it was straight on to the can!

The really cool decoupaged can with the vintage witch!

Now here is where it starts to get creepy.

Wax fangs - My daughter saw some pics online of people wearing these while I was surfing for ideas for this swap.  After I had to explained why the folks in the pics looked so strange, she immediately wanted a pair.  Well, we live out here in the sticks where not one store carries them.  Of course, my luck.  So, YAY!!!  She was thrilled!  We got some!!!  How did she know?!

Next, it gets even creepier.  I pull out this:

A gorgeous reticle bag embroidered with a cobweb pattern that is perfect.  My mom immediately snatched it from my hands before I could even open it!  She has been wanting a bag to carry favors in for the renaissance fair and this is the perfect color for her outfit.  NO WAY she's gettin' it!  It's MINE!!  It is just the coolest thing.

And, there is cool stuff inside!

A skeleton "monkey paw" barrette, shrinky dink magnet shepherdess/witch, and a beautiful key necklace!

Lots of other stuff in the box and can:

Shrinky Dink Skeleton Bookmark - so much detail on it!

All items together - and there was a lot of them!

There was a cat cookie cutter, pencils, plastic spider/bat/skull rings, buttons, a cute owl notebook (not pictured cuz daughter took it), 2 more skeleton hands, confetti, and CANDY!!  Lots of CANDY!!  Muhuhaha!!!  Tootsie Pops, Smarties and Pop Rocks (not pictured)

Thanks you oodles, cigarettesandvalentines!!  Hope I didn't forget anything.  It is the best swap package!  My most favorite of them all so far cuz it's for me.  Hehe.  The necklace and bag are definitely going to be accessories for my witch costume.  The bag will get lots of use at faire, as well.  Can't thank you enough.

57  "Knit Picked" Candy Corn Pouch in Knitting: Completed Projects by mieljolie on: September 26, 2008 06:30:55 AM
I've been posting like crazy it seems!  Don't know if you saw my post on my Spider Beanie, but I just finished my OYP Halloween swap and wanted to share my newest "pick knitting" project.

Following up on this post http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=261765.0, I have still been experimenting with the idea of using combs and picks to knit.

So, here is my knitted pouch.  It's about 4x5", I think.

This time I tried a metal dog comb (http://www.pet-bliss.com/acatalog/StraightMetalDogCombSmallImage.jpg) of all thing, 'cuz I had it and it was small.  I removed a few of the teeth to even it out.  It was much harder working this tiny.  And, I decided to try garter stitches, so the perling was driving me insane!  I also tried a row of beads.  That wasn't too bad.  Overall, it took me what seemed like forever to finish this one, but I love the feel of the cotton crochet string/yarn.  I think this comb would make nice headbands, belts or something.

58  Witch Cameo Pin in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by mieljolie on: September 25, 2008 08:58:27 PM
I've just recently finished my very first swap package for the Once You Pop Rd8 - HALLOWEEN Edition here http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=260651.0 and I've been posting my item to hear what everyone thinks.

This is my Witch Cameo Pin.  It was a real learning experience.  I've learn a lot of what-not-to-dos, as well as some neat techniques from this project.  The biggest being that it is hard to see the flaws until you antique it.  Yikes!

Thanks for taking a look at it.  If ya wanna see more items I made for the swap you can see the images in the gallery page here:  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=265000.msg3049713#msg3049713

Or, go to my blog here:  http://mieljolie.blogspot.com/2008/09/once-you-pop-halloween-swap-finished.html

As always, I'd love to hear what you think of my work.  Any pointers would be appreciated, too.  Smiley

59  Mix n' Match JOL Pumpkin Necklace Set and "Holly Go-Frightly" Necklace and Ruff in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by mieljolie on: September 25, 2008 08:48:43 PM
Okay, so I've just recently finished my swap package for the Once You Pop Rd8 - HALLOWEEN Edition here http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=260651.0 and I wanted to share some of the items I made.  Sorry I don't have action shots.

Along with some other items, I made two necklace sets for the swap including my Jack-O-Lantern Pumpkin Necklace, Bracelet and Earring set and what I'm calling my "Holly Go-Frightly" Necklace and Ruff.  Each have polymer clay bead with unique faces on them and are mixed with some recycled beads from my stash.

Here is the Pumpkin Set assembled:

Here it is in pieces:

There are 2 wearable necklaces, a bracelet, a removable pendant and and interchangable pair of earrings.  I used lobster claw clasps to attach the parts together.

I also made this necklace:

To be worn with this ruff collar thingy:

Like this:

The second necklace slightly Glows-in-the-Dark and has a Faux Pearly sheen to it made by dusting the beads with white eye shadow before and after baking.  Hard to see the shimmer in the pics.

If you're interested in seeing the other items I made for this swap you can either see the images in the gallery page here:  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=265000.msg3049713#msg3049713

Or, go to my blog here:  http://mieljolie.blogspot.com/2008/09/once-you-pop-halloween-swap-finished.html

Thanks for taking a look.  I'd love to hear what you think.

60  Spider Beanie Knit on DIY pen loom in Knitting: Completed Projects by mieljolie on: September 24, 2008 03:05:43 PM
Here is a beanie I made for my partner in the Once You Pop Swap - HALLOWEEN Edition at http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=260651.0

I made it using an altered version of the "rib stitch" I found at http://www.robertscrafts.com/projects/projects.php?prdindex=kniftyknitter&dsp=project&idnum=33 on my homemade round stick pen loom.
