21  D.I.Y. Louisville- Craft Group in Kentucky by Blackstitches on: October 20, 2010 02:22:55 PM

Calling all Louisville Crafters, Artists and D.I.Y.'ers!! The first Louisville D.I.Y. group is here. We will have our first meeting on Thursday, November 4th at 6:00 p.m. at the Sunergos coffee on Woodlawn off of Southern Parkway. This will just be a casual get together, bring your small projects- knitting, embroidery, hand sewing, beading, drawing whatever you can do in a coffee shop, order some delicious coffee or tea and meet some other like minded crafters. This is a group dedicated to crafters with a love of quirky, alternative, unique arts and crafts. You don't have to bring a project, you can always just bring yourself for some good conversation and a chance to meet fellow crafters. We hope to see all of you on Thursday!  Also join our facebook page to keep up with all of the going on's   http://www.facebook.com/pages/DIY-Louisville/136482659734677

22  Re: Tiny Haunted House Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Blackstitches on: October 18, 2010 04:56:12 PM
I received from petskin today.  It's such a great house.  I love all the details she put into it and the cool different mediums that she used to compose it.

The pictures aren't the best, since it was late when I took them and the lighting was not good.  I may try and take some better ones tomorrow.

The outside of the house.  I love the cute red door and little witches broom on the front

one side, with a cute little feather pumpkin

another side with a bird and scary spider!

the roof, which seems like it is made somehow out of a doily that is painted, I might be wrong so maybe petskin can tell us.

The awesome inside, there is a little black and white rug, a picture on the wall and the word "enchanting"

And finally, my favorite part, this cute little fellow.  My kids love him and so do I, he has so much personality!

Thanks so much Petskin!  We all really love this great house and it will have a place of honor in our Halloween decorations for years to come.

23  Candy Birthday Cakes in Dessert by Blackstitches on: June 07, 2010 05:06:11 PM
My children celebrate their birthdays just a few weeks a part and every year we have a joint party for them.  This year's theme was an old fashioned sweet shop.  These are the cakes I made for them.  The green one is red velvet and the blue was two layers of chocolate chip and one layer of devil's food.  I decorated with every candy known to man.

24  Re: Loaded Charm Bracelet Rnd. 2 GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by Blackstitches on: May 27, 2010 06:05:05 PM
I received my lovely bracelet from Pure Oath yesterday.  I love the colors and especially the awesome toggle.  It's really pretty and definitely my style.  She also sent a matching pair of earrings and a cute book mark.  One of the beads on one of the earrings got broke in shipping but the bracelet is a smidge bigger than I usually wear so I have a plan to take a link out and use a bead from it to fix the earrings.  Thanks again Pure Oath you were a great swap partner!

25  Craft Room Fantastic! picture heavy in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by Blackstitches on: May 24, 2010 04:36:03 PM
I really never thought I would have a craft area to post about, but finally I do.  My husband got all the supplies for me for Mother's day.  I'm sharing a room with the kids, they have half for arts and crafts and such and I have the other half.  Before I was crafting in a corner in my bedroom, totally uninspiring.  My new space is so awesome, I want to craft all the time!

First a pic of the whole area

My newly reupholstered vintage office chair, I used a vintage sheet

A view of my shelfing and inspiration/storage board

A different view of the shelfing unit, I have boxes for most of my stuff here and my favorite fabrics

My art/inspiration wall, I made most of the stuff up here, I love looking at this

One of my favorite projects from this room, I took a purse, cut off the handles, shortened one and added it back as a loop to hang it, it now holds my papers

One more

26  Framed embroidery- Hello! in Needlework: Completed Projects by Blackstitches on: May 24, 2010 04:14:04 PM
So I've been embroidering like a mad woman and using it for all sorts of decor in my house and decided I wanted to try words.  The word that came to mind when I sat down, 'Hello'.  So I drew it out on some sweet vintage fabric, stitched it up in back stitch and framed it in a cute vintage inspired frame.  This is actually the second one I did, once I started I couldn't stop.

27  Andrea Zuill Snail and Elf pattern in Needlework: Completed Projects by Blackstitches on: May 23, 2010 10:03:04 AM
So I have been hard at work on a new craft area for myself and one of the big things that I wanted to include was a wall of art to help keep me inspired.  So far I have only bought one item to hang and have been using my own art as much as possible.  One of the things I made was this embroidery piece.  It is from a free pattern by Andrea Zuill.  I embroidered it onto a apiece of vintage sheet and just used the hoop as a frame, since I liked the way that looked. It is done in split stitch, back stitch, a sad attempt at satin stitch and french knots.  I love looking at this little guy and as usual love Andrea's free patterns!
