1  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Back to school binder revamp and accesories...lots of pics on: August 15, 2008 10:05:08 AM
I hope I am posting this in the right place. My daughter needed a binder for school this year, and last years' was still in good shape. Except that she had written all over it the front of it, so it was ugly. I could have just made a removable cover for the old one, but she needed to be able to use the pockets on the inside, so I sewed this stretchy sequiny fabric to the outside and it works great! What ten-year-old little girl doesn't like sparkles? I made her a pencil bag to match and then sewed on a contrast piece to her booksack, so now she is completely coordinated and the envy of the 6th grade! (girls, anyway)

2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / You can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear... on: August 15, 2008 08:17:31 AM
...but you can make one from a pillow sham!!!
I found a very pretty silk seafoam green pillow sham with chocoloate velveteen accents at a thrift store and was thinking that I would recon it into a skirt. But then I saw a bag at an accessory store in the mall that I really liked, so I decided to do a purse. My sewing skills need major improvement and I need to go back and fix a couple of areas and this is my first time to recon something without a pattern, but I was still kind of proud and wanted to show it off.
(I can't find the "before" pic of the sham...grr!)
The purse is completely lined.

I incorporated the zipper from the back of the sham into the purse. This is the back of the purse.

Little cell phone pocket on the inside

Side view. I also added foam board to the bottom for stability.

One of the straps needs to be fixed (you can see that in the first photo) and I wanted to add a magnetic snap, but now I think a flap would work better.

This is my first post of one of my projects, so please be kind!
Thanks for looking!
