I posted a request on Freecycle, not really expecting anything. Well, someone actually replied and is giving us a FREE fireplace insert. Those puppies are several HUNDRED dollars!!
When we go to pick it up, I would really like to give this man a nice thank-you gift. I mean, it's like he's handing us a bunch of $100 bills, yk? And I want him to know how much we appreciate it.
I know NOTHING about him. Except his name is Michael and he is probably a man. (I even tried "stalking" him, but he emailed me w/ a non-yahoo email account, so I can't even poke around his profile/subscribed groups).
Hey! I made my first bag to use in place of my way-too-cutesy diaperbag ala Jordy-style.
Here are a few pics:
ANYWAYS, I have a few questions...
1) How do I make compartments in it? Like I want to put in a [fabric] divider in it, to make 2 compartments, instead of one big pouch. What's the best way to go about this... make two linings and have them side by side? (Or would that work since you turn everything inside out. I'm confuzzled )
2) How can I make the bottom stronger, so when you have it put in on your shoulder, the sides don't bow in and the middle sags?? Someone mentioned putting some plastic canvas in the bottom. At what stage do I do this? LIke I said, I'm following the Jordy tute... and I don't understand how that would work, since you are turning everything inside out.
3) How can I make some adjustable straps?
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I appreciate it so much for the help, or some links to the right pages!!!
The other day, I tried making a few hats from fleece. They came out great, and oh-so-cute... but you know how you flip up the band? Well, when I do that, the seam on the inside shows.
Then I got the idea of making it two layers, like purple on the outside, and then have pink on the inside, so when you fold up the edge, the pink would show.... but even then, I couldn't figure out how to make it where no seams would show...
I know it's probably very easy, but it still eludes me!
(I guess the same principle would apply to making a lined purse, wouldn't it?)
I know, I know... this is very similar to the other threads on here. Please don't hate me!
I'm wondering... what are some hot sellers this time of year? I plan to go to a few small, community craft shows as well as add some stuff to my website and was wondering what are some good Christmas sellers? I need ideas that are quick and cheap to make... mostly little things.
Hello. Newbie here, love the site. Anyways, a few days ago, DH put on a sweater from last winter and the sleeves (elbow part) were stretched comically huge. It looked like Popeye had been wearing it. (this confuses the daylights out of me b/c it fit him perfectly last winter, so unless big elbow-ed elves got into the closet and stretched it out, I have no clue )
QUESTION: Could I make socks and/or mittens out of it? I hate to throw away an almost perfect sweater and was hoping to maybe do something with it. Can you cut up a sweater and sew it into, say, mittens, or will it completely unravel? (I've never knitted and only know a few basic crocheting stitches so I have no idea)
I was hoping my first post to this forum would be showing off some wonderfully creative craft, but instead here I am, asking a stupid question. Oh well. Thanks for the help!!!
