1  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Permanently marking yarn? on: November 01, 2008 10:34:11 PM
I'm making a Spider Jerusalem amigurumi for my boyfriend's birthday (http://www.starstore.com/acatalog/dc_spider_jerusalem-01.jpg for a picture). I'm trying to do the tattoos too. I tried cutting the shapes out of felt but that's not working so well.

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience in drawing on yarn. I don't want the color to come out if it ever needs to be washed. Will a permanent marker be enough? Or should I actually get a fabric marker that requires heat setting. I'm using Lion Brand Vanna's Choice yarn, so I believe it's synthetic.

Any other advice on adding the tattoo design any other way would also be appreciated (I'm not good enough at cross-stitching to attempt it that way).

Those are incredibly cute.  I don't think I'd be able to bring myself to dirtying them on dishes.

Great idea.  Certainly would save a bit of money on buying the replacements.  I might even have to do this myself one day.  Although I wonder if that's wise in my case, since my apartment is so dusty with my and my cat's hair.  We shed so much. xD

Very nice Alecto. It's always cool to see the things people make with my patterns. I like his little night cap  Smiley Did you change the tentacles a bit from the original pattern? They look smaller than when I do them, or more tightly curled or something? Different, but still good, and definately cute!

Thanks for sharing!

Hi,

Awesome to know you're on these forums too.  I followed your pattern for the tentacles but after several tries they still came out more coiled than the ones in your photos.  I guess it was because of my own stitch size and tension.  Thanks for commenting!
5  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / My first amigurumi- Bedtime Cthulhu on: July 01, 2008 01:31:15 PM
Hey everyone, just wanted to show off my first amigurumi.  I made it for my boyfriend.  I used the pattern found here at http://cthulhucrochet.blogspot.com/2008/05/tiny-cthulhu-free-pattern.html with a bit of embellishment.  It took about 3 full days of work, from when I woke up to bedtime.  Lots of photos ahead!

Here he is with his night cap and star-spawn "plushie."

And my cat thinks he's extremely nombly.  That's a crocheted catnip squid in the background.

Thanks for looking and comments are always appreciated!

That's so cute.  Was the pictures made with series of dots or what?

I can only wish I can crochet as well as you some day.  Love all the details.  What was this set on by the way?
