1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Montgomery Ward Signature URR 285-Help! on: December 02, 2013 10:07:49 AM
Hi ladies!

I'm working on a gift for my friend and my old tank of a sewing machine is giving me headaches. My problem is that the stitches are small and uneven. It runs beautifully other wise. I've fiddled with the tension knob, stitch width, stitch length, bobbin tension, you name it. My folks were going to get me a new one for my birthday, but I seriously love this machine and none of the new ones are like it at all. I can post pictures later tonight of how it's sewing if you need me to, also at the controls/machine. I'm just hoping that one of you guys has had or still has this machine and knows how to fine tune it. There's a sewing machine repair the next town over, but the price is a little steep for this time of year, and I can't get it there until Saturday, though I'm not totally against taking it in if it comes to it.

Thanks.
2  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / Dying Disaster! Please Help :( on: April 20, 2013 04:50:44 PM
Okay, I am leaving town on Monday morning and one of the outfits I have planned to wear is going to include a bright red tank top dress. The dress only came in white and is 100% cotton, so I thought I could just dye it. I bought the tulip brand dye, Bright Red, and followed the directions exactly. It's a fuschia color! Sadly I had to order this dress, and I won't have time to get it before I leave. Sad I've been looking at this site: http://www.dharmatrading.com/Color_amp_Dye_Chemistry/index.shtml  and it looks like if I dye over it yellow it should make it the bright red that it's supposed to be. Now, I'm really new at this (I've only dyed one thing before, and it came out fine) so I need all the help I can get :/  What do you guys suggest?
3  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / You've Found A Piece of Heart! on: December 16, 2012 11:08:30 AM
Okay, this is my first quilt so go easy on me. My husband LOVES Zelda, and I thought this would be an alright idea for a first project. I got lazy with the actual quilting part, only doing every 3rd or 4th line diagonally, and the binding is a little weird. I think using batting was a bad call, and not using it probably would have made it a lot easier. Lots to learn yet, but having fun doing it!

It's on our queen sized bed for reference. What do you think?

Sign-up date range: January 31-February 14
Date to send item by: March 1

Limited to a certain number of people? No

Restricted to people who all live in the same country? NO

Additional Age requirement? NONE

Swap Organizer himself/herself meets these conditions:
- Has fully read the Swap Info Guide: YES
- Has successfully completed two swaps as a participant: YES
- Is not organizing more than three swaps right now: YES
- Will recruit a co-organizer or give all details to a Swap Moderator if this swap has more than 25 participants: YES
- Is at least 18 years old: YES

Swap Organizer will check each participant to make sure they meet these conditions:
- Has been a member for at least one month: YES
- Has posted at least 15 times: YES
- Has completed one swap successfully before signing up for multiple swaps at a time: YES
- Is not currently signed up for more than five swaps: YES
- Does not have any negative feedback: YES
- Participant has agreed that he/she is at least 16 years old: YES
- If within the US, understands that Delivery Confirmation number is required for this swap: YES
- If outside the US, understands that a mailing receipt copy is required for this swap: YES

Details of swap:
In this swap, participants will have two options.
#1.To sign up to swap with a single partner.   (Send and receive 1 bookmark.)
#2. To sign up to swap in a group of 5.  (Send and receive 4 bookmarks.)

This swap is open to people in every country, and is a great way to try out swapping internationally, without a lot of cost.  To those of you who automatically say you do not wish to ship to a country outside your own, please consider it on this one!!! You will only be mailing an envelope and the costs would be much less than in a traditional swap.  Think about how much fun it will be to get international mail!  And think about how sad you would be as an international crafter, if no one ever wanted to swap with you!  Also remember that you would NOT receive ALL international swappers, perhaps 1 or 2 in your group.

The average rate for a 1-2 oz. envelope sent internationally is between $.98 and 2.00, so if you had a group with 2 international partners, and 2 domestic ones, your shipping would still be UNDER $5.00

For a wonderful swap experience, communication is always the key.  Please keep in touch with your partners and organizer.  If you are accepted into the swap, I will PM you, and add you to the participant list.  Once partners have been assigned, you may craft your bookmarks and send as early as you wish.  All swaps on Craftster, requires the use of DC#s, but this is not possible when sending letters or sending internationally.  Since you can't get a DC number for these, feedback will be based on if your partner received or not.

For U.S. based swappers: If your bookmark is not received after two weeks, you will need to re-craft and send another one to avoid negative feedback.

For International and US/International swappers: If your bookmark is not received after three weeks, you will need to re-craft and send.

If you don't think you'll be able to make and send more bookmarks if your items are lost in the mail, please think about either doing option #1.  As soon as you ship, YOU MUST PM YOUR organizer and your partner to tell them.  Please label your PM "SENT: Bookmark Swap - Rd 4".  When you receive, you MUST PM your partner and organizer again, please label this one "Received: Bookmark Swap - Rd 4".
If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Bookmark/Reading/Book Swap? on: January 19, 2012 05:10:38 PM
I don't know about  you guys, but I always need bookmarks! I try to leave one in every book I've read, so they're always needed here! Is anyone up for a bookmark swap? Maybe like 3 to 5 minimum with a 3 week crafting time?

Or if not that if anyone was interested in doing a book swap, sending a couple used books and/or reading related items?

I'd be up to organize either way!

8  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Captain America Blanket on: November 22, 2011 05:17:09 AM
Squee! I am finally able to post something here! Lol. So, I've been crocheting for a couple years now, and I've finally got something Craftster worthy! My cousin is a HUGE fan of Captain America, so for her birthday/Christmas I thought I'd make her a shield blanket. What do you think?

I've had a couple request for instructions, so here's the links I used:

They are two pieces. The circle is found here: http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/90097AD.html?r=1

And the star is found here way at the bottom: http://www.craftfreely.com/free-crochet-patterns/preview-pattern.cfm?id=806

And then I just sewed the star onto the circle Smiley

Swap Details
The idea is to make one tiny craft item with a TMNT theme.  It should be physically small and should be something that you can craft with a high level of skill.  Even if it is a fairly simple/easy item for you to make, please embellish so that it best represents your skill.  (For example, if you wish to make a coin purse, you could embroider, add beading, or take other steps to make it a really special piece.)

-You will receive only one partner.
-You may only send that partner ONE tiny TMNT craft - "extras" are not allowed.
-All items must be 4"x4"x4" or smaller.

How do you know if your idea is "tiny?"  Examples:  A coin purse is tiny; a clutch purse is not.  A pair of earrings/pendant is tiny.  A trinket box is tiny; a pencil box is not.  If you're not sure if your idea qualifies as "tiny," ask your organizer!

Lovingly taken from the OTHPT swap description.

10  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / New Old Desk on: August 07, 2011 08:04:05 AM
I think this is where it should go  Huh

Anyways, I found this old desk on the side of the road (annoying trick I learned from my father) and thought I could fix it up nice for my niece. Here's a couple shots of when I found it (I started sanding the top before I thought to take pictures)

And in the painting process:

And finished Cheesy

The top is done in chalkboard paint.

Pay no attention to the dog Wink

I've seen a lot cooler ones posted online before, but sadly I went with what my sister in law would like vs colors I would do for a kid (Bright bight bright!)

What do you think?
