421  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Signing and dating your work on: October 14, 2004 10:51:02 PM
Sometimes I sign my quilts, and sometimes not. It depends on the quilt, it's purpose and the mood I'm in. I guess it's a good thing I don't have children...heheh Tongue Really I know I should though. I think it's really interesting when historians can track a quilt back a hundred years or more.

I did make a cool label for one quilt in particular-two pictures I drew of Duke Ellington. The label was a work unto itself-which is usually what prompts me to do labels-when I'm inspired to create related but stand alone piece.

423  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: cathedral windows... on: October 09, 2004 11:58:38 PM
I have done cathedral windows by machine. I've never done it by hand, but I imagine they are similar. You just topstitich in an invisible or like coloured thread to hold the folds in place. I also sewed the points on the machine. I did an ATC once that had machine made cathedral windows on it-I think I started with 4" squares.  As long as you can still fold the fabric you can go quite small.

I'm new to the board and am having a great time looking at what you all can do! Some of this stuff is bloody ingenius!
Thought I might add some of my work to the board as well...
