2352  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Personal/Private Swap Gallery, 2013 on: June 03, 2013 06:09:18 AM
artista83 and I did a 5 card, 5 inchie swap.
Here is what I received...
A true miracle package. This is the envie as it came to me

thanks a bunch, usps, but unbelievably, all cards and inchies were there, unharmed!!
First up ,
theme of hands

I believe this is a 'self-portrait'

next, The Jetsons

wow, I have no idea how she knew this was my fave character.

subject - bad hair day

I love it when folks know how much I love cats and use it in the card.

Cymbal-playing monkey toy

And scarecrow

I love every card! artista83 has some rockin' art skills. Love the medium, love the colors, love all the details. No way can I pick a fave.

Inchies-

theme is window scenes.
And I thought I was the queen of tiny pics!  I just do not believe what artista83 can get on to an inchie!  And still look great! It was very hard to pick a fave here, but I choose the school bus simply because it is so unusual. Whodathunk to use a bus window?

And extras for me to play with

Thanks soooo much, artista83. I will swap with you anytime!

2353  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Shrine Swap - Sign ups CLOSED Send by 06/21/13 on: June 02, 2013 06:37:53 AM
Got a couple of important things from my crafty daughter, Acadian Driftwood, to use on my second shrine. Will be working on it this eve. I sorta wish it could be mailed out immediately, since I received such a wonderful package from my partner and I wish she had one right away, too. But slow and steady wins the race in this case I guess...

oh!!  I am typically a space cadet, so I am not surprised that I did not put 2 and 2 together. I just untied it. Awesome!!  PS My hubby was very very impressed as well with all your goodness and craftiness.

I  got shrines from SlickMariaVic yesterday!!  We were signed up to swap two but three wonderful pieces came.
I adore all of them, but one of them is, like, OMG OMG OMG for me.

First, a folding screen in which nest many different bits of Nature, which she found where she lives, totally across the country from me.

Ingredients: Stick and rafia base with dried beach plants, piece of coral from Florida, and (wicked cool...) a pressed pitcher plant!! The bits can be shuffled around any way I like, which I think is a brilliant idea.
Another shot, closer up -

I love the bits of felted material at the edges for touches of color.

Next, a hanging piece made of the most awesome piece of driftwood, which I told her I adored. I have driftwood from all over the place - obsessed with its beauty and the way the waves carve it into something interesting.

I took it outdoors for better lighting, but in reality it hung above my meditation shelf not 2 minutes after unwrapping it.
Check out the close-up of the printed words she added and the face...

My Higher Power is Nature and when I am in emotional trouble (just about every day...) I hold something of her in my hand - water, a bit of grass, anything I can instantly find. I channel my pain into that, knowing it can take it, while I cannot handle it. I chose this phrase to remind me that help is all around all of the time, accessible to me.
I love the hung beads and just everything about this piece, especially the shape of the wood. What a perfect shrine!

Last, is my fave. My eyes bugged out and I gasped when I saw it. It is soooooo ME. Wow, she hit this nail on the head in a big way.

any and all driftwood makes me happy, but my favorite is old boards. I always wonder what they used to be... someone's dock? An old packing crate from a ship? The deck of a pirate vessel?
The above pic is the empty shrine, the shells are glued on. Here is the back -

I am thinking about how many pieces she had to go thru in order to find ones that fit together this perfectly!
It is painted my favorite color - turquoise.
And here it is with the important items installed -

3 of them are in tiny glass vials (sadly one busted on its way across the country, but easily replaceable, I am sure....)
Stuff inside is:
Local agates
Sea glass (also a super favorite of mine)
Plant called Old Man's Beard, and I can see why
Tiny wasp nest (what is she, psychic??!!) and shell and wood. I collect bits of wasp nests. I want to make earrings out of two matching bits someday.
Wow, what a package.
I just cannot believe how SlickMariaVic 'read' me so well.
Thank you so, so, much for your work and attention. It was a smashing success. My meditation shelf now has the 2 shrines, plus the one hanging above it.

FairyHazeDesigns is in the midst of household turmoil, so she asked me to post the mixed media I made for her.
Ingredients:
Birchbark (one of my fave things to use in art), fabric, page from a birding book, watercolor, acrylics.

Sorry for blurry pic.

Cygni claimed me for two cards. First up, water...

My absolute favorite water place. Edge of the ocean. Could camp out right there all summer, just as this is depicted, with no people, lol! Beautiful scene.

And for vines...

The colors and the gradation of them are truly more intense than this pic can show. It is just like a sunset where you cannot tell where the orange and the pink collide. I just love this card. I always love text background. And the vines in black are stunning.

Thanks so much, Cygni for two awesome cards!!
