561  Re: Character Dotee Swap - Gallery - Send Out Fri. 4/22/11 in The Swap Gallery by blupaisan on: April 24, 2011 12:00:19 PM

Here is my Pippi Longstocking dotee that sweet_sweet_little_ramona made for me.  She did not come with a note to say who she was, but she can only be Pippi!  With her striped stocking and her freckles and her adorable red hair sticking out like it does.  thank you, sweet_sweet_little_ramona!  SHe is sooo cute and loveable.  My cats took her off the wall to play with her, which is why she has some cat hair on her already (everything in this house has hair on it.) I will have to hang her higher so she is known not to be a cat toy.

562  Easy-Peasy cat bed with tute! in Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects by blupaisan on: April 22, 2011 08:36:02 AM

Your kitty will love you for making this enticing cat bed, and it cost me only two bucks - prolly will be the same for you if you have stuff around your house like I do...

Two small blankets - throw size, can be quite ragged, as they are just stuffing. I used a crib quilt for one of mine, a lap throw for the other.  They were just in my linen closet, never being used.
One pillowcase- regular sized
A second pillowcase - either crib pillow sized or small square pillow size (my first purchase, fifty cents at Goodwill)
A length of elastic or any other substance like sewing tape, I failed to measure mine, but maybe used one and a half yards. I went to Goodwill to get what I thought was wide elastic. The label had come off the box. It turned out to be some odd maybe medical tape or something. i used it anyway and it worked fine.
A medium to large safety pin
The closures of your choice - I wanted to use snaps, but had none. I used what I had, which was hook and eye.
A roll of cello wrap, I got mine at the dollar store for, yup, a dollar. It will actually say Cello on it. Or you can use any other plastic you have around the house that MAKES NOISE WHEN TOUCHED, like crackle*crackle.  Cats adore it for some reason.
Assembly -

fold your first blanket, the smaller of the two if possible, and stuff into smaller pillowcase.

shove that into the bigger case. it will be your "base" for the cat to lie on.

Fold your second throw LENGTHWISE

Roll it into a long log shape, beginning at the two edges, so they are hidden when you look at the roll.

Form your log into a circle and pin ends together. Does not have to be very neat or catch all material - just keeps the ends basically together.   Your cat will not wrestle with the bed like a dog might, so it should not come off.

Beginning IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR LOG ROLL, NOT NEAR THE ENDS, wrap your elastic/tape/whathaveyou around and around your roll until it gets to the beginning again.

sew on the hook and eye, or snap or whatever to each end of elastic, and fasten together. Do not stretch your elastic much, or it will result in a misshapen roll.

My closure isn't even very pretty, but it just has to work.

insert your roll into the big case, on top of your base pillow.

Cut a piece of cello twice the size of your big case, fold in half, and insert into case, on top of roll.  I used double amount to make it extrie crinkly and my cat approved.

punch the pillow down a bit to form a nest area in the middle of your log roll circle. I chose not to put closures on the open end of my big pillowcase, but you certainly can, if you worry about the innards spilling out. Above all, do not put your cat in the bed or he/she will probably snub it, as that is how cats are. Just let her discover it.
That's it!  Hope you can make some use of this el-cheapo tute!     Meg

563  Re: Ongoing ATC Swap--March 2011--Gallery in The Swap Gallery by blupaisan on: April 22, 2011 05:09:24 AM

I have been shamefully negligent of posting my wonderful Totoro card from Ekioart!  Isn't it adorable?  I love all the little darlings, stacked up like they are.  Great job, Ekioart, and thank you so much.

564  Re: Personal/Private Swap Gallery, 2011 in The Swap Gallery by blupaisan on: April 21, 2011 09:21:10 AM
Please join me in welcoming coconutbells to Craftster!  She and I did a private swap of an ATC with some extries added.  She came through with flying colors!  Check out this beautiful card, done exactly to my taste -

I think she is a good artist and I hope to see a lot of her work in these galleries in the future.
The extries -

A very cool paper/sewn mushroom. I have to find out what she used for the stem, 'cause it is perfect. I may use this for a bookmark.
A tiny ribboned button to which I plan to glue a magnet, for my fridge,
a hillarious pet portrait - what a fantastical expression,
and a crocheted roundlette, and here is what I was compelled to do with it right off the bat -

Here, Gabe is saying, "hold on there, Ma, this thing is pink and last I looked, I was a guy!"  Anytime I get something like this, I just have to put it on his head and snap a pic. He is my ultra tolerant angel and he will model anything!
Thanks coconutbells!  You made my otherwise dreary day!     Meg

565  Re: Matchbox Swap round 5 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by blupaisan on: April 21, 2011 07:05:26 AM

I just opened this makes-me-so-happy Nature box from MaxParadise. This photo just does not capture its true colors or gorgeousity!
Inside, some neat stuff -

and a view of some faves - two tiny deer (i adore cute deer) some eenty weentsy I dont know what they are called, all I can think of are brads but I think that is wrong.   You put them through holes in your paper and bend the tabs backwards to seal.  sooo tiny!  And two fantastic decorated paper clips, an numerous bits that I cooed over.

thank you so much, MaxParadise.  I really love it, especially the wee twig handle to open it.

566  Nuts for Nautical in New Swap Theme Ideas by blupaisan on: April 19, 2011 07:27:40 AM

I see a bunch of folks in here liking nautical things.  The range is fantastic, from boats to seashells, from creatures to steampunk ships.  Anyone up for a five point nautical swap?

568  A second round of fridge magnets... in New Swap Theme Ideas by blupaisan on: April 10, 2011 05:25:34 AM

I was in the first round and had a blast. The magnets I received are holding up papers on my fridge and stove. Anyone for round number two?  I can highly recommend it. Smiley

Nom nom nom, my Monsters in the Kitchen card has arrived from Ekioart! The texture of the monster's skin is terrific - I wish you could reach out and feel it, all scaly!  He is sitting there chomping on one cupcake after another. He is soooo cute!  There is even a kitchen clock and lights and a fancy cupcake  holder on the table - so many cool details.  thank you, Ekioart!

LolaandBean made this grooooovy card for my subject Something Obscure that Happened in 1963.  It is the year of the lava lamp!  This one is gorgeous, with a real silver bottom and top. I love it!  I never did have one, so now I do...  thank you, lola!!
