352  a foot of snow calls for a bootjack! in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by blupaisan on: December 28, 2012 12:37:03 PM
Smiley  I made a bootjack today!  It was a heckofa process, since I could not find my power saw and ended up rubbing soap on an old fashioned saw to make it flow better.
Then I finally found my power saw, but insanely chose for the small base piece an old cutting board. I swear, the saw went one millimeter per minute across that board and it took all day to cut that small lower piece!
Anyhoo, here is the jack, finished, and it works like a dream.

and detail of painting...

If enuf folks respond, I would be happy to develop a tute. This is the first bootjack I have seen on here and winter certainly requires 'em!!

353  taught hubby ATC-making today!! in Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) by blupaisan on: December 26, 2012 03:48:06 PM
We are newlyweds and obviously I am at the stage where I can get him to do 'most anything.... I told him it would make me sooooo happy to do an ATC with him. Here is what I did...

This sycamore stands just outside our back deck and is about 150 years old. I loved it the moment we looked at this apartment.

Here is what my hubby did...

He says he has not done any drawing since he was, like, a kid. He is an awesome guitar player but has been a bit hesitant to pick up a pencil or brush. I think he did well. He made a hummer cuz it is my totem, and he gave me the ATC.

FYI
the happy couple last April. Married on Earth Day

354  Re: Ongoing ATC Swap -- December 2012 GALLERY! in The Swap Gallery by blupaisan on: December 26, 2012 11:05:49 AM
I just received two wonderful cards from gala_apples!
The first is for me....
Daisies ( one of my alltime favorite flowers)

and acoustic guitars, for my hubby.

He loved it as much as I love my daisies. This is the first ATC he has ever gotten. We have a date for me to tute him on how to make em this afternoon. Can't wait.
Thank you so much, gala_apples!!

We have several strays in our area. It is gonna be a cold winter in Upstate New York. I made a shelter for them to see them through the winter. Just 3 cardboard boxes, straw, duct tape, and plastic sheeting. Link after the picture if you want to help those in your neighborhood...

358  Upcycled kitty bed in Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects by blupaisan on: December 14, 2012 09:00:46 AM
I have been taking old crib bumpers and turning them into kitty beds. It takes about 2 hours with hand-sewing. There are ties on the bumpers where they tie onto the crib rails. I left them on and the cats love to play with them as they are in the bed. Here is Smokey enjoying his...

360  Milk weed pod wreath in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by blupaisan on: December 14, 2012 08:54:07 AM
I made this for Mom's door. She is in a nursing home. When I was little, she was always making milk weed pod ornaments for the tree.  She has dementia and does not remember this, but it feels good to give her "payback." She loves the wreath.
