21  Re: ONGOING ATC SWAP - AUGUST 2014 - Gallery in The Swap Gallery by blupaisan on: September 20, 2014 03:43:20 PM
totally hit the jackpot today. Have sooo much to show off!!
 From Riechan, Crumbling buildings theme...

wow, I love this image! Of course all the remains and how they are depicted. but also the edging of the blue sky and the rise in the earth.
Riechan also chose my Puns theme and made this..

Ha Ha! so right-on for puns and check out the use of my alltime fave color!!
thank you, Riechan. Awesome cards all the way from Belgium.

From Toralune, theme is You Wore WHAT??!!

this gutsy gal is sporting a robin's nest as a hat! And she has fandango feathers at her shoulders. Obviously she does not give a hoot about what others think, as she has a smile on her face.  Thanks Toralune! Great choice for that theme.

From cmarion3, my crumbling buildings theme, she put four together depicting the remains of the Pitkin Glass Works, founded 1783.

What a wonderful set! I love the sketchy quality to it and subtle colors. I am quite sure that this is the first 4 piece set I have ever received. Such fun.

the lovely hand made initial M card with it...

Thank you, cmarion3.

thank you all, you talented wonders!!

Look what Acadian Driftwood made for me, combining themes...

I put down my favorite book and series by James Herriot. She took an incident from the book where Tristan, the young prankster, fooled locals by dressing up as 'the ghost of Raines Abbey.'  And Acadian Driftwood (who happens to be my daughter) featured this as if it were a Nancy Drew book cover! It copies the typical Nancy Drew look. I loooove the image of the 'young attractive titian blond sleuth' and the glow of her flashlight.

On the back is a mixed up quote or two that combines both Herriot and Drew.

Oh my gosh, this is sooo funny. I sure needed a laugh when I received this bookmark!
A D and I would have lots of laughs as we read Nancy Drew over the years.
Thank you Rosie!!  Awesome job.

23  Tied a feather in his hat and called it cauliflower. in Vegetarian / Vegan by blupaisan on: September 06, 2014 08:01:31 PM

Who needs macaroni when ya got cauliflower?
I had a perfect head of cauli and could not find a recipe with ingredients i had. So I winged it and came up with this little gem that turned out great.

had to put that  pic in there cuz it was so purty.

Fresh out of the oven, I guess I will call it On-a-Whim Cauliflower bake.

Ingredients:
One head cauliflower
Two fresh tomatos
3/4 cup dried bread crumbs
5 T butter
2 C whole milk
2 t Old Bay
dash salt and pepper
3 T flour
1 C grated cheese (only thing in my fridge was meunster and a smidgen of Asagio)

cut veggie into small pieces to your liking and steam for 8 minutes
Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Slice tomatos, about half inch thick.
Heat milk (I used microwave) for 2 minutes. sprinkle Old Bay on top of it.
Melt 2 T butter in saucepan over slo heat and when frothy, sprinkle in flour and use fork to mix.
Cook on lo-ish for 5 minutes.
Add 1/4 of your milk and whisk well til mixture is smooth. In a continuous stream,
add the rest of the milk while constantly whisking.
Add cheese and stir for another minute.
Using the original pot after water and steamer have made an exit, put in veggie,
and pour cheesy mixture over it. Stir a bit.
Pour all into square glass baking dish that has used a bit of butter for greasing it up.

Melt remaining butter and mix well with bread crumbs.
sprinkle 4 T over cheesy cauliflower then
 Place tomatos all over top.
Using fingers, distribute remaining greasy crumbs over top.
 Bake 20 minutes.

Remove from oven and lock back door so you do not have to share it with neighbor who smells it. Or, if you are not such a Scrooge, go ahead and share. Next time you wanna borrow her lawn mower, betcha she says yes.

24  question about planning for a very large embroidery project in Needlework: Discussion and Questions by blupaisan on: September 04, 2014 06:07:18 PM

I found a piece of stunning fabric and want to embroider the entire thing. Will end up being the size of a single bed spread.
I want to start in one corner, go across, and continue in a general paragraph type pattern if that makes any sense to ya'll. I will be doing all round pieces all over, with obvious round borders.
My question is... as i go along over the years working on this, and showing how (hopefully) my skills have grown as each circle is created, I will be having this material smashed in the hoop. I expect that in the end, I will have a seriously wrinkled finished piece, complete with hoop marks that I might iron out if anyone can teach me how to do such a thing without wrecking years of work.
thanks!!
Also, if I ever have to launder this piece, is it likely that the colors will run and ruin it? Do folks wash their floss before using it to remedy this?
thanks.

25  Every pirate wants a balloon on his birthday... in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by blupaisan on: September 04, 2014 04:26:14 PM

I recently made this cut paper birthday card for a friend.
Front...

Back...

which is from the book Mutiny on the Bounty.

Inside...

It took me awhile to create (as you can imagine) and the embroidery floss rigging was the most challenging. but it was sooo much fun to make!
LadybugsandBumlebees gifted me most of the paper. thank you!!!
Also, a big thank you to my daughter, Acadian Driftwood for her awesome skills at photo taking.
it is my first attempt at pop-up.
thanks for looking.

26  My utter failure in peeling hardboiled eggs in Recipes and Cooking Tips by blupaisan on: September 03, 2014 04:25:03 PM

It seems like I have tried everything! I am boiling water (eggs have been sitting in it). At the boil I turn off heat and let sit for 10 minutes. makes the perfect egg but I'll be durned if I can peel the bugger! I  plunge it into cold water and begin peeling. Egg is still warm as I work. One out of 6 eggs will peel perfectly and easily, the others will  be as stubborn as they come and tiny shell bits come off at a time and I lose a lot of good egg.
Sure would like some pointers.
thanks!

got a great package from flygirl88.
here are some extra tags to show off first...

plus some smaller nautical cards. i feel terrible that my camera is at the other place! please, Leah, if you have superior pics do post!

seriously elegant compass cards. I have no idea how these were made. i cannot believe they were hand done!!  They look so professional. How am I gonna send out such gorgeous things?

my alltime fave group.... i totally squeed when I saw these next ones...

Not only are they nautical, but are way vintage! I love love the edging around them that makes them look old. and the fact that the words are done to look a bit faded. Wow, Leah, you hit the nail on the head with these cards. There is no way I can part with one of each.
thank you so much.

28  Re: ONGOING ATC SWAP - JULY 2014 - Gallery in The Swap Gallery by blupaisan on: August 18, 2014 12:34:12 PM

jenleahlynn made this ocean themed card. I have forgotten the words she used to describe her technique, but I agree with her that it turned out looking a lot like underwater seaweed. So pretty.
And her daughter created this one!!

Fantastic!!  A creature I would love to see in 'person'.

An extra for my cats theme.

Words by T S Eliot.  Awesome card.

thanks so much, jenleahlynn (and daughter!!)

My life is totally nuts just now so I am waaaay behind in posting cards.
I will do this one before I dash off the the next obligation...
from Sammylouise40, theme of Natural Elements.

This cow is being taken for a ride with a tornado. I love it! I love humor and this really made me laugh. I have had weird dreams about having a tornado 'seek me out' and harrass me. it is a  scary dream. Guess I know how this cow feels.
Thanks so much Sammylouise40 and so sorry it took me ages to post.
