rockingbearranch chose my retro clothing theme and made this very interesting card. I so wish I could wear a brimless hat like that, it just does not suit my face but I love them so. If this outfit were in dark brown I would so wear it!
I love the little tag attached and the sewing background.
Also got an extrie, owl.

love all the color and details.
thank you, Barb!!

Although most folks consider the European Starling to be a serious nuisance, I love 'em to pieces!

Years ago, I found one trapped in the wall of a school where I was a janitor. I heard desperate peeping behind the wall. Without question, I took a sledgehammer to the wall and popped him out. the nest was inaccessible so I took him home. My daughter and I raised him together. We named him Bobbity. He was such a love!

I well remember walking down the long hallway to the room where his cage was. He heard me coming and the closer I got, the louder his eager cries became. It was really odd to shove the food dropper so deeply down his throat at feeding time, but that is what was required.

Rosie and I taught him to fly. In my bedroom, I began by having him perch on my hand and I gently waved my hand up and down to unbalance him a bit, forcing him to open and exercise his wings. After some days of that, I plunged my hand down so radically that he was forced to fly. He would go across the room and land on Rosie's hand. then she would send him back to me.

Within 60 seconds of letting him go in the field behind the school in July, he zoomed in the air and caught a butterfly, something we had obviously never taught him to do. T'was truly amazing.

years later, I discovered that we could have 'taught' him to talk. someday fate will give me another one and I will teach that one to talk.

OK, so that might look a bit odd, but it is the way my brain is working just now. There were a number of issues with shipping out of country, allergies, and folks who wanted one vs. two partners. The above is the result! (;

curiousfae mailed two at once, plus a stunning greeting card that I had to include in pics...

First ATC theme is puns or wordplay. She made this, as she knows I am nuts about kitties.

Ha ha! Not only did it include two of my likes and requests, but the background is (drumroll please) TURQUOISE! Woo hoo, love this card! I also had never heard of this particular word play so that is awesome too.

For my white, red, yellow theme....

I am not a yarnie so do not know if this is a knit or a crochet piece. Either way i keep staring at it, drooling, really I do, and it is GORGEOUS.

thanks so much, curiousfae!!

27  too pic heavy for it's own good... redone lampshade (tute!) in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by blupaisan on: December 26, 2015 08:06:10 AM

I profusely apologize for tons of fuzzy pics.  Had to use my phone which does not always cooperate.
My daughter (Acadian Driftwood) had an old shade I made many years ago that was fading fast. She asked for a redo for Christmas. I tried to copy the color of her newly painted bedroom walls. First I soaked the old shade in hot water for a couple of hours and pulled off the old paper and glue.

She loves kitties so that was my go-to theme. I decided to make up my very own technique!!  Tho they say there is nuttin' new under the sun so maybe it has already been done but who cares. I took a pointed tool and 'carved' pictures on the paper.

I lightly did penciling first to know where to go. then after 'carving' I heartily erased the pencil, often smudging the kneaded eraser into the grooves of the picture so as to get out every bit of pencil mark.

next I did a wash of acrylic over the whole panel and the paint seeped into the grooves of the carved pic. Woo hoo, my idea worked!

dried panels.

took more paper and painted those for side fixin's to go between glued on panels.

once dried, I marked and scored the back, to cut out six pieces and have a good scored line for when I needed to fold the long bits to glue on at the last.

normally, one uses official lampshade glue. I had none so used ModPodge and it worked just fine. used popstick to put glue on cage, layed panel on and massively pinned all round to secure to dry. YOU MUST BUFFER WITH THICKISH PAPER SO YOU DO NOT GET DAMAGE FROM CLOTHESPINS.

of course, the last panel does not have space to put clothespins so i just weighted it as best I could with three heavyish rulers. Worked fine.

careful about putting glue in the inner space, too little and it does not stay on, too much and it seeps out when you squeeze the strips on and it looks nasty wasty.
here are the side pieces, ready to get glued on.

start flush to top, leave extra at bottom to be trimmed when glue is dry.

see how the hand constructed cage is not perfect? there will be places at the top where even the most carefully cut strip will be fine on one side, sticking up a bit on the other. trim carefully after drying.

trim bottom of strips.

image, will not show every single one, as you are prolly overwhelmed already.

more

my fave.

thanks for looking!!  Questions welcome!!

30  Woodburned Chill Stick in Completed Projects by blupaisan on: December 24, 2015 03:57:29 AM

My daughter Acadian Driftwood is to be credited with this incredibly awesome idea. Years ago, maybe ten by now, she took a similar stick and woodburned a continuous line on it. when I was severely stressed (usually at a medical place giving blood which always sent me over the edge) I brought along my Chill Stick. Find the end of the line at one end, do not move your eyes from it as it meanders all over the stick and eventually winds up at the other end. not only wonderfully distracting, getting you out of your present bad moment, but it somehow relaxes the brain/emotions/mentality to have your eyes moving over this beautiful burn on a smooth stick.

I made this one for a friend and hope it works the same 'magic'!!
