3  a not-really-pumpkin, not-really-pie dedicated to a cat in Dessert by blupaisan on: November 17, 2015 03:10:08 PM

Sometimes when I am sad, I get busy. Today I wanted to bake.  A kitty named Zemon who has been a love in my life for over eighteen years died yesterday.  This yummy is made with love and with him in my heart.

I grew a large garden this summer. I planted only one type of squash on my own, all the rest came up as mystery squashes from last year's rotting fruits. They all looked like pumpkins and there were over twenty of them. yet, today when I baked one for homemade pumpkin pie, it turned out to be a spaghetti squash inside! I chose not to use that, but went with a butternut that Acadian Driftwood gave me from her farm (she was Zemon's Mommy for the past seven years.)

So, with that, I made the traditional goopy mix. But added a twist. I crumbled (not too severely) animal crackers on the bottom of a pan, then poured the mixture over it.

Of course, the kitty cracker had the place of honor, and spoke up about his place in the world....

During the last ten minutes of the 40-minute bake, I covered it with foil, as several crackers rose to the top where they coulda been burned.

The thing is delicious, hot from the oven!!  Have to be careful not to eat too much at once and make myself ill.

thanks for reading.

4  Re: Inchie House Halloween Swap 2 GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by blupaisan on: November 17, 2015 12:30:15 PM
Two of my houses never made it to the gallery, so I will post what i sent. Not assembled, of course...
For Zaphinian's orange with Halloween kitties...

The structure is made from the inside support cardboard from a lightbulb box. I thought it would look a lot like clapboards.

the shiny black 'fence' around the house is cut from a vinyl belt. I had a rollicking good time making the trellis (thread) with dead vines on it and kitties clamoring all over it.

There is a black velvet rug on the floor.

lancmaltby may have received hers but she appears to be MIA so I got the OK to post... For haunted victorian theme....

I got very very daring (for me, the non-engineer) in creating my own template for this. I am happy with how the tower turned out.

I thought it might look a bit more haunted with only yellow for colors, showing lights on inside.

I did put color on inside, and created a ring of dancing ghosts using tissue paper.

Also two ghosts hovering over the party making sure nothing gets out of hand.

5  One Tiny Bird Thing Round Two in New Swap Theme Ideas by blupaisan on: November 12, 2015 03:16:14 PM

Seven months ago I joined an awesome swap. Above is a creation by LaChapa for that swap.
It was great fun and I am putting the idea out there of Round Two. So many folks seem to adore birds. And tiny is always good!!

I got myself an Ookpik!!  He crossed the border to come live with me...

For those of you who have not been introduced to this wee cutiepie in your life, Ookpik is a stuffie, developed in the last century by Canadian Inuit crafters. Ookpik is the Inuktitut word for snowy owl.

Wulf did the most amazing job at recreating one of my favorite childhood book characters!! And who better to make it happen than a talented man from Canada!

Here he is enjoying the morning light on our farm.

And a shot of his underside so you can see the talons

There are beans in the base so he can either hang like a proper dotee or perch safely on a surface.

Oh my, these eyes gaze out at me and I feel like I am six years old again, reading my Adventures of Ookpik book!!

thank you so much, Wulf.

I love the tiny black kitty at the bottom. The graphics are positively miniscule!!

Also love the blueish grey weathered color.

thank you, Zalphinian!
