51  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: Messenger-style Nappy Bag (lots of pics) on: July 19, 2008 02:45:33 PM
Thanks for all your comments! On the grey bag I used the thickest iron-on interfacing I could find on the base and back, and the front, sides and flap I used a medium weight iron-on interfacing (it didn't iron on too well to the back of the curtain fabric so I tacked to on before sewing). I didn't use any interfacing on the lining as the material was quite heavy already. For the black bag I used the thickest interfacing on all the outside pieces and no interfacing on the lining again.

For the pattern, I just drew a sketch of what I wanted it to look like - added some measurements and started cutting with my ruler and scissors. It was easier to cut the black one b/c it had lines - but matching them up was a bit harder.

Ok, so I was looking for some tips on making a messenger style nappy bag awhile back and I came across Craftster. After looking through a few tutorials I decided to have a go at making one myself.

This was my first attempt, which I use for myself. The grey material is the scraps from a pair of curtains I hemmed and the butterfly motif is made of felt.

Back with pocket

Front pocket for wallet, phones, etc...

Inside front pocket

Inside bag

After making this bag I wanted to make one for my step mother-in-law who just had her little baby and i tweeked the design a little bit and came up with this one. Sorry there's no pics of the front with the flap closed- DH took the pics just before I gave it away and I forgot to check to see that he'd taken them from all angles  Embarrassed

It also has a bottle holder on either side. No pics of them either sorry  Sad

Any comments or suggestions are most welcome  Smiley
