Through the looking glass and into the world of Alice!

For over 140 years, Lewis Carroll's wonderful world of Alice has inspired countless artists and authors to look the world through the fantastical eyes of a child.

With this swap, we will be taking our cues from those artists, authors, and Carroll himself as we sew, paint, decoupage, spin, and knit our way to our own version of Wonderland.
From the original Lewis Carroll version, to the Disney animated, to the Sy Fy channel’s Alice to the Tim Burton movie – all versions of Alice are fair game!
Please note that your partner may want a different version of Alice than you – be prepared to craft for your partner’s wishes!!

WHAT WE’RE SENDING:  This is an EASY PEASY swap, so we are just sending 1 MEDIUM craft of Alice themed goodness! No extras are required!

Please read the Swap Info Guide to find other rules about participating in a swap and Swap Etiquette for a helpful guide on project size requirements.

2  Harry Potter - Potions Master game in CHALLENGE 86 ENTRIES by luckdragon on: May 03, 2013 03:08:35 PM
I was lucky enough to be partnered with pinkleo for the Decked out for Deathly Hallows Part II swap back in May 2011.  I had so many ideas for this swap (I mean, it is HP, right??)  Anyway, she mentioned in her questionnaire that she would like a game.  So, I came up with a card game called Potions Master.

The idea is to collect ingredients to complete potion recipes.  The first one to complete their recipes wins.  There are also special spell cards so you can try and put up (and repel) various roadblocks for your opponents.

I basically looked on different HP websites for "common" potion ingredients to make up the ingredient cards.  Some spells were from HP and some I made up myself.  The potions were totally made up to, hopefully, be humorous Cheesy

I printed the cards double sided on heavy cardstock then laminated them.    The box was a metal tea box that I covered with bits of masking tape and then aged with shoe polish (a trick I learned as a girl scout) to give it a leather look.

If I had more time, I would probably have created more ingredients, but I think it works with what's there.  I would share all of the cards that I have for you to print, but I don't think I can upload the .doc file.

Here are Sample Cards:

Game instructions
Object of the game: To be the player with the most completed potions
Game Pieces:
-   12 Potion Cards      - 48 Ingredient Cards
-   9 Spell Cards      - 1 Dice
Game Play:
Shuffle the Ingredient Cards and the Spell Cards together.  Deal out 4 cards to each player.  Deal 4 Potion Cards to each player.  Players lay the Potion cards out in front of them face up.
Play starts to the right of the dealer.  On their turn, the player may do the following actions in the following order:
1.   The player may add ingredients from their hand to any one of their potions.  Do this by laying the ingredient cards face up with the potion card.
2.   They player can then do one of the following actions:
-   Roll the die.  Draw the number of cards from the draw pile indicated
-   Cast a spell (see spell cards)
3.   At the end of their turn, the player must discard one card face down onto the discard pile
When the draw pile gets diminished, shuffle the discard pile and continue.  Once a potion has all 4 ingredients, flip those cards face down.  This potion is complete and the ingredients cannot be stolen. The first player to complete all 4 potions wins and is the Potions Master.  If the draw pile is depleted before this happens, the person with the most completed potions is the winner.
Casting Spells:
Spell cards are identified by the wizard:
Follow the directions on the spell card to put other players at a disadvantage.  The 2 defensive spells, Protego and Finite Incantatem, can be used to block an incoming spell.  All other spells must be used on the player’s turn.  Once a spell has been cast, put it in the discard pile.  The exceptions are the Dopplegangium spell (which allows a player to substitute one ingredient for another) and the Loctitium spell (which prevents another player from stealing an ingredient from a potion).  These spells must be kept with the in progress Potion until it is complete.
Game Variation: The potion cards can be shuffled in with the ingredient and spell cards.  Deal 5 cards to each player.  When a player gets a potion, lay it down in front of them to start adding ingredients.  The first person to find and complete 4 potions wins.

SWAP DETAILS:
This description has been taken from IYP22, which was taken from IYP21, which was taken....you get the picture.

Heres how it works:

In this swap, you can contact anyone and ask them to be your partner. It's almost like a personal swap, but with a group, and a killer gallery! You will have to sign up with your partner. That is, you must contact your potential partner via pm and you both must mutually agree to be partnered together. Once you have a partner, each of you must pm me with your information, and after doing all the necessary double checking, I will post you both together as participants and add this swap to your "In progress" feedback.

Swappers may have two partners this round! However, if you have any instances of 'poor swapping' documented in your feedback (such as 'no communication' 'did not craft in the spirit of the swap') or numerous instances of sending very late, I ask that you only craft for one partner. You may not have more than two partners.  ** New swappers may only have 1 partner**

As partners, you will choose if you want to have a theme, if you want to post stalk each other and be surprised, or if you want to request from each other things you have admired in the past. You should also agree on quantity. I would suggest one "large" (time consuming and/or valuable) item, and a couple of "small" (quicker to craft) items that you know your partner will like. Unless you choose otherwise. Feel free to start crafting for your partner as soon as you are both officially signed up!

If you want to participate, but you are a bit shy of just asking someone, you can PM me and you'll be put on a list of "Potential Partners" in the next post, so people can choose from craftsters that are interested.

 RULES:
Please check into the thread once per week.
swappers will receive temporary negative feedback if:
- it is one week past send-outs and you are out of communication
- it is two weeks past send-outs and you have not yet sent, regardless of the communication with us and your partner.

Even if you decide with your partner that you are sending late and she/he says its alright, you MUST send by two weeks past the send out date or this will be reflected in negative feedback. Once you do send, you will have positive feedback again, BUT this late sending will be reflected in your comments even if you communicated.

THIS IS A VERY IN DEPTH SWAP AND WE ARE TRADING WITH PEOPLE WE LIKE. PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY AND BE READY TO SEND ON TIME!

The secret password is: hullabaloo!

ONE NOTE: It is a little scary to ask someone to be your partner. Some people may have someone else already in mind, or they may not have the time or funds to participate right now, or they may just not be interested. We need to remember to be nice if we feel we need to refuse someone, and to not take it personally if someone else turns us down.

Here's what you need to do:

1. Contact your partner (make sure they're in good standing, swapwise), and agree to join together
2. Both partners must PM luckdragon and each other with mailing information.
3. Post in this thread so I can keep up with you!
4. Make sure you can mail on time, and provide organizer with a DC number when you do.
5. PM your partner and organizer when you receive as well! Your partner CANNOT get feedback unless you PM us. Thank your partner both in a PM and publicly in the gallery. If you are unable to post pictures, please let your partner know before they send to you. In this case, you still need to post in the gallery about what you received.
6. Lack of PMs to organizer and your partner will be noted in feedback!!!
7. Have fun!

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer (luckdragon)

6  Tree of Life Messenger Bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by luckdragon on: March 29, 2013 03:45:10 PM
I made this Tree of Life Messenger bag for ThriftyLiving4U in IYP 22.

I designed my own pattern based on a bag my mom brought me back from a cruise Smiley  which seemed like the perfect size - not too big, not too small.

The bag is about 10" square and 2.5" deep.  The flap closes with a magnetic snap.

On the outside of the bag (under the flap) there is a big pocket and then an additional zippered pocket - I like to keep my phone and keys within easy reach.  The bag is fully lined and there is another zippered pocket inside.

I expect to be making more of this style bag, so if anyone is interested in a tutorial (I'm not sure how different it would be from other messenger bag tuts) but I would be willing to post one.

Sorry for the delay...here is my wonderful package of crafty goodness from ThriftyLiving4U!

For my daughter, some Hunger Games goodies - a mini tote and some hand cut stencils!
(she says thank you!!)

Then a t-shirt turned into a shopping tote (stalked so well that she knew I had been to China and managed to find a t-shirt!):

Redecorated jewelry box:

...stuffed chock full of goodies!  Stitch markers, fused glass, fused glass pendant, 4 bracelets!!

Set of metal stamps and the cutest photography fabric:

From one of my favorite movies (the Fifth Element), coasters with the 4 element symbols!

Cute little tote with asian inspired trim:

A Watercolor Resist portrait of my daughter! (i've always wanted to try one of these!) Funny note - thought this was me for a minute... people are always saying we look alike, but I've never really seen it until this picture!

An AMAZING portrait of my kitty done in paint (?) on fabric and outlined in freehand machine embroidery!!

And, last but not least, a gorgeous, multicolored tree painting!  I LOVE IT!! My picture doesn't do it justice...if you have a better one Christy, please post it!

Thank you Christy!  You were an amazing partner! Thanks for asking me to dance!! Cheesy

9  Doctor Who travel wallet in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by luckdragon on: March 08, 2013 10:44:48 PM
It's sort of a clutch, sort of a travel wallet and most definitely bigger on the inside.

The tardis is a machine embroidery design from Urban Threads.  For the outside, I layered strips of fabric and the cloud shapes and attached them to each other with a zig zag stick. Then the tardis was embroidered on top.
The inside of the wallet can hold 8 credit cards with a slot behind for bills.  The other side has a zippered pocket and an ID slot.  There is a clasp inside that can be used for a key or can be used to attach the separate strap - which also can be used as a key chain.  The whole thing zippers closed so nothing falls out - that was the hardest part to figure out.  I basted the outside and inside together (right sides out). Then basted on the zipper - opened all the way and longer than the perimeter - starting at the top and ending at the bottom (both sides).  Then attached seam binding over the edges of the zipper and wallet - machine sewn on the inside and hand sewn on the outside.  If I make another one, I will post better pictures of the process.

This was for one of my partners in the IYP 22 swap  - she took a much better picture (thanks bananaleg!)
