This was completed a few months ago, but I've wanted to share him for awhile, I've been away from the community for a bit... but without further delay.
I present... Buzz Lightyear!
I decided to give him the classic buzz mouth. He's socks, fleece, felt, and thread/floss. I kinda just winged it... as far as getting everything to mesh. And I didn't put pressure on myself to make him exact. He came pretty close... I wasn't going to add the "helmet cap" but decided that it would make a better rendition, and I'm glad I did.
He was a commission a few months ago, and has already departed to his new home. I kinda miss the little guy.
I've never dyed acrylic felt, myself... but I have some pincushions i designed, that required special colors of a wool felt blend that I could not find easily in town.
I ended up buying white or off white, depending on the colors I wanted, and RIT. Any fabric dye would work.
When I need a varied pattern, like mimicking the variations in a rind, I'll mix the dye with little water in a darker consistency and sponge it on. That part of the technique might be useful to you. If you use a brush, and the dye.
I would say watercolors, watered even more... but if the item were to get wet later, it might be a problem.
I can't promise this would work on acrylic... but, it's worth a shot.
i really like how you incorporated facts about the bag and plastic's effect on birds into the bag like that. i use t-shirts... but anything that reduces the amount of plastic bags impacting our environment is a good thing, in my book.
