571  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Halloween Needlework on: September 26, 2008 07:30:40 PM
I did these for a Halloween swap. My partner received her package today so I think it's safe to post.

First up is my first attempt at crayon tinting and my first embroidery piece in 30 years. I kind of gave up on embroidery once I discovered cross stitching. Anyway, here it is. I made a photo album cover. The letters are some plastic ones I found at Michael's, the spider is done with acrylic paint.

And here is a trivet. The skull is cross stitched with a simple spider patterned cloth background:

If only my photography skills matched my needlework skills.  Cheesy

Whatcha all think?

Love that shrine, Ma Rut. The glitter really shows off the flowers and the vintage images inside are wonderful. Great job!

My partner finally got to go home - yippee.  So her package is finally on its way to her.

And my partner should get her package today. Whoot!

EDIT: The package has been delivered. Happy Halloween, Karen!  Smiley

The wall hanging is made from white sculpey clay that I rolled out and hand cut. I coloured it with acrylic paints and sealed it with glossy Mod Podge.

I didn't know that sculpey clay was so versitile. The sculpting and painting is impressive. That's what I love about this site, you get so many great ideas. I can't do most of them, but I love seeing them just the same.  Smiley

Goatgoddess: I love that wall hanging. That vintage card is cool. I love the images on those old cards. The captured ghost is cute. I love his little heart. So, what do you feed those things when you keep them as pets? lol

Ah. Now I get to do what I've been wanting to but haven't had time for.

Rackycoo: The black cat box and the witch sculpture are wonderful. I love the look of the cat, so vintage looking. The trick or treating witch is so well done and looks like she's having a great time filling her treat bag.

DanniQuee: That pumpkin wall hanging is awesome, and I love the little danglies. I don't know what it's made of but the colors and design are great. The fortune teller shrine is also amazing. I love the tiny table and tarot cards. What a cool idea.

Hippiejo: That's some excellent knitting on the dishcloths. I'd love to have that pattern. The ornaments are cute and the journal and extras are fun.

Pupper: I saw that "Paw Readings" design on the needlework board, done with cats, and I loved it. Your version with the dogs is equally excellent. I also love the witch cats. Adorable! You did a good job with the sculpting. I've never tried anything like that, but your design makes me want to give it a go.

Hoppy: Wow! Just Wow! You drew that? That pin up witch is beyond awesome. Then that shrine... The cat, the toothy grinned pumpkin, the background, all super! I love it all. Then you made that octopus as well. I'm running out of adjectives here. You are seriously talented.

It's as much fun to look at the gallery as it was crafting for this one. There's some great stuff here.

Just an update. Thanks to the help of my crafty brother and eagle-eyed sister, I got everything done!! I'll be able to send on Monday, which makes me very happy. I managed one vintage item and a couple of other nice but not vintage ones. I must also thank my extremely patient and understanding partner for making this a relatively stress-free swap, all things considered.

I'll take pics of everything before I send in case she's unable to by the time she gets it all. I'm so thankful and relieved that my "big" item turned out as well as it did. I'd had to give up on my first idea and go with my back up plan.

I'm loving the stuff on the gallery, and when I get everything shipped off I'll be over there telling everyone how much.  Grin

577  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: X-Stitch a piece of Fine Art ! - Now with closeups of the stitches! on: September 14, 2008 07:49:25 PM
I've seen these fine art kits for years and have wanted so much to do one but I know the time involved and I've always put it off. This gives me second thoughts. It would be almost like contributing to the arts to have a piece this beautifully evocative of the original. To me, cross stitch lends itself well to the recreation of impressionist pieces because of the color blending.

This is awe inspiring. The fineness of the stitiching is particularly amazing.

Thanks so much for that, Karen. There's no reason to mail anything until I'm in a position to get it. I'll keep everyone posted on the process of getting back home. You've been so kind and understanding. I appreciate you very much.

I watched some videos on our local station's website and the pics are heartbreaking. Trees through people's houses, businesses and schools with their windows blown out. It's horrible.

I actually waited almost too long to make the decision to leave this time. They kept expecting it to hit more southerly so I put it off until I was told to go. I'll know better next time.  Smiley

But I probably won't send until the weather has stopped being crazy in TX.

I was just saying the same on the other board. Great minds don'tcha know.  Smiley

I'll be sending yours out soon. I brought stuff with me again. It might not be as grand as I'd hoped but I think you'll be pleased.

Yikes, I can't even imagine how that must mess with your life!

Majorly. Last time it was three weeks before I could go home. They said it might be even longer this time. There are almost 400,000 people without power. Fortuneately the flooding in my area is said to have been minimal, and a friend went to look at my house today and said the outside looks all right.
