551  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Vintage Halloween Swap Round 2 - signups Aug 15-22 - sendout Sept 22 2008 on: September 13, 2008 10:04:56 PM
Thanks so much for that, Karen. There's no reason to mail anything until I'm in a position to get it. I'll keep everyone posted on the process of getting back home. You've been so kind and understanding. I appreciate you very much.

I watched some videos on our local station's website and the pics are heartbreaking. Trees through people's houses, businesses and schools with their windows blown out. It's horrible.

I actually waited almost too long to make the decision to leave this time. They kept expecting it to hit more southerly so I put it off until I was told to go. I'll know better next time.  Smiley

But I probably won't send until the weather has stopped being crazy in TX.

I was just saying the same on the other board. Great minds don'tcha know.  Smiley

I'll be sending yours out soon. I brought stuff with me again. It might not be as grand as I'd hoped but I think you'll be pleased.

Yikes, I can't even imagine how that must mess with your life!

Majorly. Last time it was three weeks before I could go home. They said it might be even longer this time. There are almost 400,000 people without power. Fortuneately the flooding in my area is said to have been minimal, and a friend went to look at my house today and said the outside looks all right.

Well, the worst case scenario happened. Hurricane Ike hit close to my area. I had to evacuate and there is no telling when we'll be able to return because of the massive power outages. With hurricane Rita in 2005 it was three weeks before they called the all clear. A friend told me today my house is intact, so that's good news. Of course he couldn't see the inside...

However, I would like to request that Karen not send my gift until I get home. I'll contact her through PM as well and let her know. I'll still be able to send hers though, so no worries there.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience but it's been a bad season.

Wow, you did a good job on this. It actually looks a bit like the actors. Putting it on a hanky is funny. What a great idea.  Smiley

I like that saying too. This is cute. The cheese is good but I love the little elbow macaroni.

Mellifluous - so glad to hear you made it through fine - here's hoping the rest of the season is painless for you!

So glad you made it thru fine Mellifluous - hopefully your area is done with storms for a while.

Oh, me too. I wouldn't be so antsy about leaving but I have an elderly mother and last time we got hit with Rita, there were no emergency services and the power was out everywhere for three weeks. I just can't take the chance.

On that note, the latest projections for hurricane Ike put it uncomfortably close. I hope I don't have to go through this all over again next week. *sigh* Don't worry, I'll keep you all posted. Thanks for your concern.  Smiley

One thing, Mellifluous, I don't care when you send - but I won't be able to take pics and post after 10/7 - so if it's going to arrive after that please takes pics

Will do! I'll take pics of yours when it arrives too.  Grin

Hi everyone. I'm home and the area where I live took no damage, though I still had to leave and come back. I had no idea we could send things out as we finished them. If I finish early I'll go ahead and send. I might still need the whole time but my project seems to be shaping up nicely at the moment.

Thanks for the encouragement, Karen. This is my first swap so I want you to have something special.  Smiley

I don't know how you do it. Everything you stitch is just so neat and tidy, and the designs are always interesting and cool. You are my embroidery hero. If I ever get around to trying embroidery again it will be because I'm inspired by all the stuff you make.
