551  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Cheshire Cat and Hedgehog on: January 17, 2009 10:08:32 PM
I just completed in the Alice in Wonderland craft swap so I thought I'd post pictures of the things I made.

First is a Cheshire cat.

The face spells "Alice in Wonderland". I did the eyes and teeth in glow-in-the-dark thread and it really shows up nicely at night. I wish I had tried to get a picture of it. I put the design on a laptop bag.

Then there is this little hedgehog I made. It says "Bean" because that's the name of my swap partner's pet hedgehog.

I hope you all like them.

Could you possibly post the site for where you got the dali pics?? That would be awesome....also, the cheshire bag is awesome!!

I'm almost embarrassed to admit this but all I did was click on Google images and type in "Alice in Wonderland - Dali" and took the pics off there from a variety of sites.

And I'm glad you like the Cheshire Cat. I like it so much I'm thinking of doing one for me.

Okay, I said I'd post tonight. I just didn't say that it would also be tomorrow.

I got the coolest package from Miss Whitney. There is so much awesome stuff I hardly know where to begin. There are going to be lots of pics so bear with me.

First up are White Rabbit and Rose brooches:

I told her I loved the image of the White Rabbit in his heraldic garb. Both are pins I can attach to my scarf which I shall post a pic of below.

Next is a pin made from a playing card (the Queen of Hearts, natch) and two pins with looking glasses. The background is a scarf with the Cheshire Cat stripes. I didn't get a great pic of it, it's kind of wrinkly since I've been wearing it nonstop all week. It's so warm and cozy and it goes with everything I have. I wore it to work and almost lost it to a jealous co-worker. lol I've been getting lots of compliments on it.

Then this lovely set of beaded earrings.

These keychains are so much fun. My particular favorite is Bill the Lizard and his ladder. Looks like Alice has given him the boot. Poor Bill.

And now for the most wonderful piece of all. A handpainted cup and saucer. The bottoms say "Alice in Wonderland Swap 2008"

Look at that White Rabbit! I swear, I had a tear in my eye when I saw him. This is the coolest piece I've ever seen. He's drawn perfectly and I especially love his little bunny feet.

A close up of the inside of the cup...

And a close up of the Rabbit...

I love this saucer so much. It's my favorite thing of all!

Thanks so much Miss Whitney. I can't believe you're new to swapping. You're amazing!

Thanks everyone for their comments about the Cheshire Cat. I was looking for a picture to convert to cross stitch but most were so involved it would have taken me a year. When I found that picture I fell in love with it, and it converted so well! It took a little tweaking to make sure the words came out right. I did the eyes and teeth in glow-in-the-dark thread so at night he's a true Cheshire Cat, just the eyes and teeth show. It does say "Alice in Wonderland". I had to do a double take to see the "in" in the eyes myself.

I'm so glad you like those notecards, Whitney. I just pulled the images off Google. It was the easiest of the things I made. I'm sure you'll do an awesome job framing them if you choose to do that. You're a remarkable crafter.

I also apologize for not posting pics sooner. I was waiting for you to get home. I'll post later tonight so people can see all the wonderful things I got. I asked for the White Rabbit in his heraldic costume. Wait until you all see what she did for me. *is thrilled!*

Wow! I'm not even into this musical but that's some seriously impressive stitiching.

Lord of the Rings is my all time favorite. I don't think I could resist this swap should it come to reality.

That latitude/longitude tote is totally incredible, and the smiley scarf is cute as can be. Love the colors.

I second hippiejo74 on that embroidered crochet hook roll. Wow, that's amazing work! Tulgey wood creatures, lol. I wish I'd thought of that.

I knew this swap was going to have some great stuff.
558  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: Slaughter-House Five embroidery on: January 09, 2009 11:48:44 PM
That's the perfect Slaughterhouse Five quote and the design is perfect too. I know quite a few people who would love this.

This is a great design. I'm looking foward to seeing the one with the glow in the dark thread you described here as well.

I'm a fan of Agatha Christie, especially Hercule Poirot, and Rosemary Rowe, who writes these mysteries set in ancient Britain when it was under Roman rule. There are also a set of murder mysteries where Groucho Marx and his reporter friend solve the mysteries. If you like Groucho, or old Hollywood, you'd get a kick out of them. I don't remember the author.

I also like Monk and Psych. I was actually tempted to join the Psych swap but that was a little too specific for me, plus I was involved in a couple of other swaps at the time. I can't do more than one at a time. I'm a slow crafter.

I love the ransom note idea. See, that's the kind of thing I never seem to think of on my own. You're a natural at this.
