61  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Ongoing ATC Swap -- August 2016 Gallery! on: September 05, 2016 11:48:20 AM
all these watercolor cards are exactly why I bought another watercolor set today.  the one I got at Michaels is like...chalky?  it's perfect for certain projects, like the pocket letter swap I'm in, but not for making the pretty things I'm seeing here.

I agree. I have two different ones from Michael's that have some really pretty colors, and are cheap but like you said, they are kinda chalky. I find I have to do my pen work after I paint. If not, the chalkiness clouds the ink lines and I find I have to go over them again. Of course, like most things, the more expensive kind probably doesn't do that but who's got money for that when there are soooo many other crafty things to buy!

I bought some liquid watercolor which I really like. A little more expensive (not much) but you can stretch it out by watering it down. I also found that I can squirt a little in a paint well and when it dries out I can just re-wet it.

yay!  more great tips!!!  I'm learning so much lately.  I'll have to look into these liquid watercolors.  I didn't know such things existed!

thank you both!

this makes me want to make more patches like this, but of different characters.  I just know what I'll do differently next time.  maybe just felt pieces, not a felt background.  Wink  turning in those corners was annoying!!!  they don't lay flat without adding in extra stitches and make "appliques" bumpier than I'd like.  maybe one or two more with felt, but that's it!  unless other people make them for me.  Cheesy

my first ever Teesha Moore patch!!!  and I love it!!!

I was in the August round of the ATC swap where I did a Red Riding Hood themed card.  I got the idea from an invitation I found online.  I made paper cuts for the ATC, then I made the pieces from felt and stitched this up.  and I love how it turned out!!!

isn't it cute?!  now I only need...some more patches to make a cover for my ATC binder!  Cheesy

the gems I used are from nail art kits.  so yeah, they're tiny.  Tongue

I got a card on Saturday!!!  I was silent on this until today though because yesterday was a Skyrim binge day.  Cheesy  I think I only checked Facebook maybe twice.  and that was on my phone (this site is too hard for me to look at on my phone and I don't know my password.  lol).

for my Weird America theme, emilywilde made me a card depicting Powell's City of Books in Portland, OR.  the NW entrance has a statue known as "The Pillar of Books" that actually contains the ashes of a man who loved the store so much, he wanted to be buried there.  the ashes were previously stored on a shelf within the store.  talk about a dedication to reading!

so cool!  thank you for sharing this with me, emilywilde!!!

so, Jo-Ann Fabric is having an awesome sale on their open stock paper priced $0.79 to $0.99 today and...well, honestly I don't know when it ends.  anyway, it's 10 sheets for $2!!!  I could have bought SO much more, but I only went with 10 sheets.  and a few of them may or may not have been specifically for this swap.  Wink

the anticipation is killing me!!!  lol.  I'm on hold with my other active swap until Sunday (I'm done crafting for my ATC swap and I haven't been added to the new one yet), and I have nothing to make!!!  I need a project!!!  oh yeah.  I wanted to make something for myself...

looks like it made it through the mail!  lol

I'm so glad you like it.  Smiley  when I saw that Pinterest board, I spent hours going through the pictures again and again and again.  I've started falling in love with calavera makeup and sugar skulls over the last few years, and when I was at Michaels the other day, I picked up that cat stamp (yes, it's a stamped image).  I went through that board again, and came up with this idea.  there are tiny jewels in places where the shape on the image matched rhinestones I have, then I filled in the other areas with markers.  on the card, it was otherwise boring.  all that yellow space.  I looked through the board AGAIN, and found a picture that had a design like that around the outside.  I figured I could do something similar, and there you have it!

here's the pic I took so you can see the little jewels:

I tried to lighten it up a bit, but now the orange around the outside looks darker than it is.  *sigh*  but you get the idea.  Wink
