3901  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Twilight Round 6 Swap (Sign Ups Closed) Send Out by 4/1/09 on: February 21, 2009 11:03:22 AM
I didn't get into Twilight until just this past Christmas. I picked up the first book on a whim while Christmas shopping thinking, "I just have to know what all this fuss is about," and I was hooked. I really don't see how anyone could NOT like them.

that's when I got into it!  I was talking to my aunt and I mentioned that I wanted to read Twilight and she's like "that's it!  don't buy it.  I know what I'm getting you for Christmas."  hmmm...I wonder what she got me... Wink  Twilight, an orange, and a six pack of Blue Moon.  it was a good Christmas...

yeah, the people I know who dont like twilight, myself included pre-conversion, dont like it because

a) they havent read it and since it's sooo popular, it has to suck (that was me..and yes, I did it with harry potter..and now im HUGE MAJOR DORK fans of both)
or b) they have read it, secretly liked it, and try to look cool by hating on something people love.

fuggetabout em.

I think you've got it right.  really.

I was never one to not like the books though.  I really did want to read them to see what all the fuss was about.  and I'm so friggin glad I know.  it makes me kinda sad to know there are totally anti-Twilight people out there.  people that think True Blood is better.  I mean, I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion.  they say it's stupid that vampires sparkle, so I say it's stupid to see a vampire with fangs on their Lateral teeth rather than their Cuspids.  I saw a picture of Billy (is that his name?) and I knew something was wrong with his teeth.  a girl I work with watches the show and read the books and she told me that their fangs are their Lateral teeth and are longer than most "normal" fangs we've seen (not counting Nosferatu since there is NOTHING normal about him/them).  I wanted to see the show at first, but then it was described to me.  that's not happening.   Grin  I still want to read the books though.

Yup, I also look at them separately.

want to explain that to a few dozen anti-video game jerks I know?

you don't really compare the two.  you take them as individuals.  enjoy them separately (though I have a harder time doing that with books turned movies).

im going to have to check it out.

here is a fun thing we can do...

what is YOUR twilight soundtrack?

I may not have been able to take part in this swap, but I still want to talk Twilight.   Wink

it's funny you mention this.  I actually sat down one day and made a CD called "My Twilight".  it of course has "Decode" and "Leave Out all the Rest".  the other songs are:

3.  "Vermilion, Pt. 2" - Slipknot
4.  "Hunter" - Bjork
5.  "All Around Me" - Flyleaf
6.  "Blow Back" - Mary Elizabeth McGlynn (from the Silent Hill: 0rigins soundtrack)
7.  "The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game" - Massive Attack
8.  "Strong" - Velvet Chain
9.  "Taking Over Me" - Evanescence
10.  "So Cold" - Breaking Benjamin
11.  "Darkness" - Disturbed
12.  "Serene Dream" - kidneythieves (I think of Twilight EVERY time I hear it)
13.  "Aeon" - Lacuna Coil
14.  "Tight Rope" - Lacuna Coil (13 and 14 are kind of one song)
15.  "Good Enough" - Evanescence
16.  "Nobody Lives Without Love" - Eddie Reader
17.  "Lucky" - Bif Naked

it really covers all of the books in my opinion.   Smiley

but now I can't listen to it in my car anymore because my CD player broke.   Cry Cry Cry

Books are so much better than movies- then you can see what's happening in a way specific to you.

I do agree with you, totally I do...which is why I love the Twilight saga so much.  as far as Harry Potter goes, I hate to admit it, but sometimes I get confused reading the books.  the movies spell out everything loud and clear for me.  the books, from time to time, get too wordy for me, so my mind starts to wander (which it was starting to do in OotP until they started up the DA meetings) and I forget what I read.  but I think I do hate Umbridge more in the book.  she seems like a MUCH bigger b!+(h than the character in the movie.  I can't wait to read the book and see the movie for HBP.  I want to compare the characters and see where I love (or hate) them more.   Grin

well, I got the stuff I need for this challenge today...then I realized that I don't have a pattern.  I definitely need a pattern.  *grumbles*

if I had one thing printed out, I could take it to work with me tomorrow and get started on it.  but I'm not printing it now, and I'm not getting up any earlier than I need to so I can print it.  maybe I'll do it for Sunday...
3910  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Re: Pipe Cleaner Maneki Neko on: February 13, 2009 05:35:48 PM
knew what this was as soon as I saw it.   Smiley

I'm studying Japan/Japanese culture, so I know a bit about this, and what I don't know, I look up...then share with others (whether they really want to know or not  Grin)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maneki_Neko (same site you got the picture from)

according to ^that^:
"Maneki Neko can be found with either the right or left paw raised (and sometimes both). The significance of the right and left raised paw differs with time and place. The most common belief is that the left paw raised brings in customers, while a right paw brings wealth and good luck, although some believe the opposite. Still others say that a left paw raised is best for drinking establishments, the right paw for other stores. (Those who hold their liquor well are called hidari-kiki in Japan, "left-handed".)

It is commonly believed the higher the raised paw, the greater the luck. Consequently, over the years Maneki Neko's paw has tended to appear ever higher. Some use the paw height as a crude method of gauging the relative age of a figure. Another common belief is that the higher the paw, the greater the distance good fortune will come from."

I do love this, by the way.
