1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Knitting to lose weight. on: December 28, 2009 03:12:55 AM
I was reading an article about how to lose 500 calories a day.  Even though I don't knit (my hands just won't let me), I found this little blurb especially interesting.

Get out your knitting needles. An afternoon of knitting can burn more than 500 calories (at a rate of about 100 an hour).

Just thought I'd brighten your day!

So next time your S.O. gives you "that look" when you're busy knitting, tell them you're 'exercising'.

Yeah....that's it.

Exercising.

 Cheesy

2  CLOTHING / Shoes: Completed Projects / Oh so cozy slippers from wool sweaters. on: December 27, 2009 04:14:59 PM
OMG!  My feet are so HAPPY!!

I found some old wool sweaters at the Good Will store and felted them in my washing machine, then I used the felt to make these slippers!

I cut the top and heel from the sleeves of a navy sweater.  The bottom is made from a thicker gray sweater (prepared the same way) and I added some "Grip Tight" to the bottom so they're not slippery on my wood floors.

The cuffs of the sweater sleeves made a natural binding on the top of the slipper and the pretty stripe that was on the top of the sleeve now adorns the toes of the slippers!

So toasty!
3  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / My happy Hippo! on: December 27, 2009 03:56:43 PM
Here's my attempt at making a needle felted hippo for my grandson.  I gave it to him for Christmas.

This needle felting thing is addicting!!   Grin
4  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / My first felting pet...I'm in love. on: January 16, 2009 02:42:19 PM
Here are some pictures of my first felting project that I did this afternoon.  I....am in LOVE with felting!   So relaxing and invigorating at the same time.  I just wish I was a better 'sculptor'.   Wink

5  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Giraffe faux fur hobo bag--first purse I ever made. on: December 27, 2008 11:59:23 PM
Here are a few photos of the hobo bag I made for my 21 year old daughter for Christmas.  I'd never made a purse before.  I was so scared to cut into the fabric at first. LOL!  Turns out it was a nice fabric to work with.

It's hard to see the pintucks on the handles or the pleats on the bottom front of the bag, but they really help give the bag some shape.
