1  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Completed Projects / Glass magnets - petri dishes! on: December 19, 2010 07:53:42 AM
I made these flat glass magnets for my boyfriend's SIL for Christmas. She's a microbiologist and will really enjoy these! I mounted them on a magnetic dry-erase board and labelled them so she'll know what's what, just in case. Images from www.giantmicrobes.c om

Note: the unlabelled one on the bottom is HPV, I ruined the label and have to re-print it.

2  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Cat stocking, first stencil on: November 12, 2010 03:57:56 PM
I read up on this forum today about how to stencil and was inspired to have my hand at it. Behold, my first attempt - a pretty good start, I feel, albeit lopsided. BF and I will be filling it with goodies for his family's cats before we go to their place at Christmas.

Fat black one - Niki pickles
Black with booties - Miranda the panda
Grey with missing tail - Piper
Tabby - Widgit

I'm most pleased with Widgit, the multicolor was a challenge.
3  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Non-Scary Scarecrow on: October 19, 2010 03:19:07 PM
I made a scarecrow with my mother today, she got a bonus at work for bringing in a neat holiday themed decoration.

The work in progress was too full of straw for me to remember to take progress pics, but this is what my mother's kitchen looked like afterwards (it was raining outside today so it became an indoors project. Silly us).

When he was all stuffed, tied up, and decorated (mostly, there was some stuff we waited until he was at his new home to do), he had a hug for me

and a Kiss!

We loaded him carefully into the car

and set him up at his new home outside of our gas station.

4  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / First Time Gusset? on: July 14, 2010 09:04:52 AM
Hello, I'm a self-learned sewer and still pretty new, I was hoping for some help interpreting directions.

It reads, "Create bottom gusset of tote by aligning side and bottom seams and stitching 2" from point."    Huh

Does this provide you with enough to try and help me figure out what's supposed to be going on? I appreciate any help!
5  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / shiny green card protectors? (pictures linked) on: September 02, 2009 08:59:04 PM
My boyfriend gave me a package of card protectors that he had used at some point in a card collecting game of some kind. I'm trying to find a use for them, they're such a pretty material! They're plastic and I don't think I could really sew them together, any thoughts?

6  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Ironing candy wrappers? on: June 24, 2009 01:30:34 PM
I have a project in mind that I need to iron or otherwise straighten out the wrinkles from candy wrappers - right now I'm fiddling with starburst wrappers.

I suspect that if I directly iron the wrappers, the waxy coating on them will cause an issue. Is there something I can lay over the wrappers to avoid this?
