1  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / A new Faire Dress for moi on: September 18, 2009 03:35:40 PM
i finished this and blogged about it ages ago but somehow it never made it over here so i thought id share it now :0) better late than never i suppose huh?

you can find all thie links and things i used to make this dress in my full post over here
http://convivialcrafter.blogspot.com/2009/05/my-new-faire-dress.html
basically the skirt is a tube gathered to a bodice. the chimese was made from this pattern
http://www.butterick.com/item/B6196.htm?tab=list/costumes&page=all
and as i have said before i relaly like this chemise pattern except its waaaaaay too short. it needs to be about 3 feet longer so include that in your yardage if you want to make it.
i made the bodice starting with this generator. its fully boned with wide cable ties. they worked great! ill never pay for boning again. the dress is made of cotton twill. i like the way it hangs and its not too hot either even though its a fairly heavy weight fabric.

2  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / monster guys on: August 10, 2009 12:57:53 PM

a few weeks ago i made a couple monster guys for my nephew. i really like to make these they are really kind of a zen sewing project, thats really good for scraps. i never measure. i just cut out random shapes and sew them together. i really like the black one. its tounge just makes me giggle. and he has a bandage on his leg cause i stuffed him a bit to hard and that seam ripped open and i stitched it shut kinda ugly. but i like the bandage i have to tell ya.

3  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / im fleur delacour! on: July 16, 2009 09:05:29 PM
for the opening night of harry potter and the half blood prince i wanted to make a costume that was more complicated than the robes id made previously. id always wanted a fleur costume and when i happened accidentily across the perfect fabric i snatched it up and decided that is was time to make it. here is the completed project:

this is what i was aiming for:

and this the how it came out:

if you want to know every crazy detail about how i made it you can find my dress diary here in 5 parts:
http://wilcoxwizardwears.blogspot.com/search/label/beauxbatons%20academy. i painted my shoes and felted my very own hat (man was that a mess) i draped my patterns starting with a few patterns i had as a starting point. it was a lot of fun to make and to wear and i really hope you like it too :0)
4  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / my favorite quote on: September 06, 2008 10:47:31 AM
i am part of a harry potter crafts group on yahoo and last month was a challenge month. the challenge was to take your favorite quote and using any craft medium you want represent that quote in three items or less. so i decided to go with this quote by the gloriously odd Luna Lovegood:
"I don't think you should be an Auror, Harry," said Luna unexpectedly. Everybody looked at her. "The Aurors are part of the Rotfang Consiracy, I thought everyone knew that. They're working from within to bring down the Ministry of Magic using a combination of Dark magic and gum disease."
and i decided to make a purse charm that i could use on my backpack which is rapidly becoming a total harry potter hobo bag. pretty soon you wont even be able to see the back pack at all! its gonna be awesome.
to represent each part of the rotfag conspiricy and their plot i made some little dentures with gum disease, a set of fangs with a rhinestone set in one fang (i imagine this is how their insignia might have looked), and a dark mark with little rhinestones in the eye sockets too. all of these are made out of polymer clay. it was my first time working with it and it was soooooo fun. i can see this becoming another hobby. god. like i need another one. i also made the jeweled bits in the chain by using a wire wrapping technique and i connected it all to a hoop earring base with jump rings. the chain and jewel sections are also attached with jump rings. yay! i am happy with the way it came out. what do you all think. any polymer clay tips would be really appreciated too.

5  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions / dark mark key chain on: August 16, 2008 01:33:59 PM
hi all i was thinking of making a key chain for a friend that swears shes a death eater  (I dont believe her shes too sweet) anyhow i wanted to make it in the shape of a dark mark see here

my first thought was to just sculpt the items and insert a wire hanger but i am thinking with the snake sticking out like that it might break off kind of easily. maybe i should use wire and make an armiture for it? what gauge wire would you use? or maybe i should just cut out the shapes and mount them on a base (like a circle) or polymer clay? amybe i should sculpt the shapes like origionaly planned and slice off the back half and mount that to the polymer clay base? i am unsure how to procede. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
