1  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Supplying your crafts from independant local suppliers... on: September 09, 2009 02:40:51 AM
I have a jewellery company where I make most of my jewellery myself, I have a policy where I order from local shops in places that I believe need my help, mostly middle men/women in countries where they struggle to make a living. For example my biggest source of beads is a tiny bead shop in Mauritius and I am currently planning on travelling around the far east to source other local shops that have unique beads and are trying to craft a living out of a difficult and challenging market. I have in the past but try not to as I grow to buy off big suppliers who are killing the local crafting community.

My girlfriend is possibly better at this than me simply because she sources fabrics from makers of fabric who are struggling but who also create it themselves, unfortunatly the beads always come from bigger factories, hence why I don't buy them direct.

Please don't think of me as someone who is trying to kill the crafting within my local community but as someone who is helping those less fortunate than myself, am I doing the right thing? Discuss.
2  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Hi everyone I would value as many peoples opinion on this topic as possible? on: September 08, 2009 07:57:34 AM
Hi Everyone,

Please can I take a moment of your time and ask your valued opinion. I have got a beads/jewellery website, it has been up and running for a while, needs a bit of tweaking but I am nearly (finally) there.

I was wandering if I could get your opinion on:

www.BeadedLink.co.uk

Ease of navigation?
Look and feel?
Pricing?
and anything else you feel is purtinent?

I want you to be ruthless so please don't spare my feelings. Thanks for taking this time for me.

4  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Discussion and Questions / Any hints on making a Multi Stranded necklace on: July 13, 2009 08:12:16 AM
Hi everyone,

I have been asked to make a multi-stranded necklace for a friends wedding, I have never done this before and want to get it absolutely right for the day. Is there any advice anyone can give me, just to clarify.

I want to make a necklace that starts of with one strand then splitting into three, I have beading wire, thong, beads and screw clasps and lobster clasps and am fine with getting more kit if I need it.
