21  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: Help with a first project on: June 16, 2008 09:12:19 AM
Thanks everyone, you've all been really helpful - now I just need to find the time to sit down and start experimenting!
22  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Help with a first project on: June 15, 2008 03:48:23 PM
Hi

Not only am I a newbie here, but I am a newbie with machine sewing things. I did a bit a couple of years ago, so know the basics, and have borrowed my mum's sewing machine for an undisclosed amount of time (basically til she needs it!). I really want to make a skirt but I'm rubbish at following patterns, so was thinking of making a simple elasticated waist skirt.
Is this going to look any good, or should I try and make a panel skirt instead?
If I should, how do I go about doing it?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks in advance for any help!

Also, just behind the rag market as you come from the Bullring is the indoor market, which has a couple of fabric stalls, and also a craft stall right at the far end where you can get pretty much anything (apart from beads) that you need for making/finishing things off, staff vary between sour as old grapes and really helpful!
