Hi all,
I have a question regarding http://www.butterick.com/item/B4738.htm?search=4738&page=1 (don;t know how to add link). first of all - regarding the datatypes - it says "Lightweight Linen, Gauze, Crepe, Lightweight Broadcloth and Faille", I don;t know these fabrics (I'm from Israel) but these are all wovens, right? can I use cotton? cotton blends?
second, does anyone know this pattern? any tips?

2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / cowl nexk question on: October 09, 2008 10:06:16 PM
Hi all,
I have a pattern of Mccall http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M5161.htm??tab=out_of_print/easy_stitch_n_save&page=3
of a top with cowl neck.. I've been trying to make it. I don;t have a pictures right now, but basically here's the problem:
I attach the back facing to the back part - right on right, I don;t turn the back facing yet.
I then attache the shoulders of the front and the back - again, right to right.
now I turn over the back facing... at least that's what I understood from the directions (and I didn;t get much of it!). it works - I mean, you can't see the seam of attaching the front and back, but it just doesn;t look neat. it's not aligned (the back and the front).

also - I just don;t understand the instructions of attaching sleeve B... I attached the upper part of the sleeve to the top - it's fine... But attaching the lower part - can't get it!
do you think hust attaching it is enpough? or does it look as is it need some special treatment?

thanks all!
3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / need help with Mccall pattern directions - what is FINISH? on: October 06, 2008 09:31:22 PM
Hi all,
I started a top yesterday, and the veru first intruction os "finish the edge" of the front part. in the drawing I see what looks like a large zigzag stitch on that edge.
I couldn;t find out what 'finish' means?
is it a zigzag? should it be that big? what is it good for?

6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / New look 6557 question on: September 03, 2008 11:32:49 AM
Hi all,
I know some of you made this dress and it turned out great! so I am trying now... this is my first dress pattern and it feels a bit too much :-( I am doing it now on some cheep fabric, just to see if it fits and to make sure I understand the instructions... and I don;t.
the part I'm stack in is step 8 - attaching the back facing with the back fabric. it is done after the back i attached to the front in the side seems... now what? can anyone explain it?Huh

7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / overlock questions... on: August 11, 2008 09:01:36 PM
Hi all...
I started sewing a few monthes ago, and I baught a very simple machine (didn;t know if I'll like it) and I do like it :-)
However, my machine and stretchy fabrics... not such a great match :-(
I have my birthday coming soon, which could be a great ooportunity for me to buy some sewing equipment... so I was thinking of an oerlock machone (it is the same as a serger, right?)
so i have some questions -
do you have a serger? are you happy with it? what is the price range for that?
here in Isreal it is very pricy... my husband will be in Germany in September. He could buy me there, does anyone know of prices there?
I really want one, but it's not as if I am this big time sewer that can justify buying suc a pricy machone.. so help me justify it... please?Huh?

any other ideas for sewing equipment?

thanks all!
8  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Discussion and Questions / ribbing question.. on: August 04, 2008 08:55:03 PM
my question is for the following pattern (From Ottobrre) - is calls for ribbing, and I'm not sure what it is? a different colour of knit fabric? a special band?
I want to start working on my daughters' fall clothes... this looks easy enough, if only I know what they mean...

9  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / more NL 6613 on: August 02, 2008 08:40:54 PM
I love this pattern :-)
this time I made the exact same dress for my daughter and my niece.  my niece is is 9 YO, so I made the largest size for her and it fit!
in the picture her dress is not finished yet - bacuse I needed to see that it fit and that there was no need to lengthen it...
anyway - they are both happy :-)
my daughter:

and my niece (I finished her dress with a white bias tape - my sister didn;t like the red finish on my daughter's dress)

I don;t have any more of this fabric left :-(

10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / nice top - simlicity pattern on: August 02, 2008 08:36:37 PM
I don't recall the number of the pattern, but I've this top before in polka dots, which I can;t wear. now I made it with more wearable fabric, except it's very poor quality, it wrinkles as I sit! this sohould teach me not to but the cheapest fabric in the store :-)
anyway - I made the neck as instructed and then thought I'd like to better it if was black - with a bias tape, but it didn;t come out right because I already sewed the neck band... but it's not too bad I think. Let me know what you think...
