1  Re: 50 Projects 2014--Let's continue the craftiness! in Craftalongs by fishstix43 on: July 07, 2014 05:54:27 PM
I've been living out of a hotel room this summer for an internship, but I've still managed to do a little sewing.

The most boring black skirt ever, but it's literally been worn every single weekend since I made it.

I made a sweater in July and I don't care.  It's super snuggly and I will wear it even though the hem band is all wonky.

I was a little afraid to wear this out, and then literally 7 or 8 people said they loved it just as I was walking down the street, which has never happened to me basically ever.

So much amazing crafty goodness on this board, I can't even process the amount of inspiration!

I finished something, it's from my list, and it qualifies for the challenge because it's purple!

It's made from Vogue 8670, and of course there's a bunch of extra ease (and I can tell I need an FBA from the drag lines in the picture), but it gives me a starting point to alter the pattern and I think this version is definitely wearable.

I really like that key necklace, sheepblue.

I finished my first project!  It's a Sewaholic Renfrew, the closest thing I have to a TnT t-shirt pattern.  Made from pretty thin polyester, so it's not the most luxurious thing in the world to wear, but I have to sew up all the sort of yucky fabric so that I'll have really gotten my skills up to snuff to sew the really nice fabrics.

Now back to the steampunk costume for round 2!

Made my first pair of real pants!  They're the Thurlow pants from Sewaholic patterns.  Only took me a total of 5 months from cutting to done!  Tongue  Definitely going to make another pair soon though!

Time to get cracking on coil fabric bowls for a charity auction in November.

So I've been a terrible crafter lately, but I think I did a pretty good job of being patient until the mojo came back, and I think it finally has!  Sorry for the photo dump!

A reconstruction of some khaki pants that were too short and very flared, that I made into ankle-length skinny pants.

A skirt made out of grey sweatshirt material (not very useful now, but will be awesome with tights in fall!)

A brown velvet skirt that also probably won't get worn until fall, but I'm really pleased with how it turned out!

That brings me up to a whole 7 projects for the year! (I know that's nothing compared to a lot of you, but I'm working with some serious time constraints so I'm encouraged by it)   I have one more completed thing that I just have to find the pictures for, and my head is spinning with ideas after power-reading about 20 pages of this thread!

One more on the books for me - a sweatshirt made from a Jalie pattern, which is a new experience since there's no words in those patterns, only pictures!  Unfortunately this is the best picture I got last night...

But heres a better one on the floor.

I think if I make it again I'll go down a size, but I'm not 100% sold on the detail on the front on me.  There is a shawl collar option that it might look better with though.  It's perfectly good for around the house, and somewhere there's a Kenneth King quote about having to destroy acres of fabric before mastering sewing, so I'm not too worried about it not being perfect!

You guys are blowing my mind with all the amazing projects on this board!  I can't even keep up with the amount of awesomeness.

Smeddley - yeah, I definitely had to do it in small batches; I could not imagine having to do all that gathering and long seams all at once.  The fabric is a really weird texture, it is a knit but was really...spongy?  gauzy?  You probably can't see in the picture, but it's also got some prepressed wrinkles in it. Here's a picture of it closer up, the color is really off but hopefully you can see what I mean.

That's most of the reason that it took me so long to figure out what the heck to do with it!  I don't mind knits as a rule, but this is not a fabric I'd rush to work with again. Lucky for me, I'm pretty sure it was secondhand from somewhere, so I don't know if I ever would even find it again.  Thanks for the compliments everybody!

Finished a tiered skirt, trying to replicate one of my favorite store-bought ones.  This puts me at 3 projects for the year so far, but I've got a new organizational/motivational program that will hopefully help me put the spurs to my crafting from here on out! Who knows, I might even still be able to finish something for the challenge! Cheesy

Love those painted monsters!

10  Re: 2013 Annual DeStash-Along in Craftalongs by fishstix43 on: March 27, 2013 03:27:13 PM
Finally completed a skirt from all stash, including elastic and thread!  It was a nice square piece, so I essentially just cut the whole thing into strips, then sewed them together as needed to make the tiers, using the whole thing up.

This is actually it folded in half, because it is really wide spread all the way out.  The topstitching made the seams go a little wonky, but I'm hoping with a couple washes and presses it'll calm down a little bit, and I'm just glad to have completed something!

I also have unintentionally followed the supply diet this month, and I don't see any reason not to see the month out!
