Very nice! Where do you find the pattern for that?

Its Amy Butler's Birdie Sling

Finally made myself a new bag. Love the birdie sling pattern. I have three more in the works.

I modify a few things (zipper pocket, carabinger hook on paracord which is awesome for finding keys, magnetic snap). And for this one, I've added a vinyl reinforced handle since that is where they wear the most.

I'm chuffed with it. Wouldn't normally carry pink but I so adore Tina Givens fabric. I think she does gorgeous work!

Thanks for checking it out!

I really like this.  I like the variation on a simple pattern.  Was going to do something similar for my son with just the major blocks, but perhaps i'll add narrow ones too.

Well done!
7  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Geo from Team Umizoomi on: October 29, 2015 02:52:46 PM
My kid loves Team Umizoomi. I have previously made him a Bot backpack.

He does not get halloween.  He wouldn't be able to come up with a costume idea.  So I asked him if he wanted to be Geo.

I got a basic hoodie pattern and added the Geo style. The pants are just traced from existing pants.  The shapebelt is cut from foam, then Duck tape was used for the orange.  I wanted bigger 3D shapes on the belt but never came up with the right idea.  So its just felt backed with duct tape and taped on.

The shapesplitter is just flower arrangement foam cut out and put on a skewer.  Coloured with clear glitter glue to give it a luminant effect as the original lights up.

Learned a few thing sewing elastic fabric (its jersey). Overall, quite happy it got done!  And Geo looks pretty happy too.

8  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Free motion issuue on: July 13, 2015 08:57:24 PM
I just got my mom's old singer circa 1970s.  Its a great machine and I took it because it is great at freemotion (the one time i checked it out and saw it worked great).

Now I can't get freemotion going.  I have the manual and did everything:

  • took the pressure off the darning thingie at the top
  • moved the feed dogs to down position
  • removed the pressure foot (manual shows there isn't one for embroidry/freemotion)
  • tried to pull the bottom thread through to the top to start and that just won't work.

Any ideas on how a) I can pull the bottom thread through? and b) what else I might be doing wrong? Huh

Thanks!

Make sure the thread isn't coming off the arm that goes up and down.  Sometimes if it comes off, that can happen.  Go through the threading and see if it is done correctly.

It shouldn't be set as look as possible.  There is definitely some adjustment needed and that could include the bobbin casing tension.
