11  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Need Costume Ideas on: October 22, 2010 10:54:26 AM
I was originally going to be a zombie for Halloween; however, my church decided to have a trunk-or-treat that night for the kids, and I will be face painting there. The rules for costumes are that they have to be kid-friendly, and not gory or scary in any way. Do you guys have any suggestions for me???

Thanks!

So today I got bored and decided to practice my SFX make up skills, since I will be volunteering as a make up person at an upcoming haunted walk.  I think it turned out pretty well. I didn't use any fake blood, though, because it is messy and I didn't really want to have to clean it up or mess up my clothes. It will look better at the walk when I actually add the blood.

Any comments/criticism is welcome. Happy 29 days to Halloween!

If you're interested, I put together a tutorial on my blog because a couple of my friends wanted to know how I had done it. http://triciaisbored.blogspot.com/2009/10/start-with-clean-face.html(This should link directly to the tute. Let me know if it doesn't work)
13  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Kenmore Serger???Need help!!! on: September 19, 2009 12:45:03 PM
I recently purchased a Kenmore serger, model #16622, from someone on Craigslist. It's like this one: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51VVFM1W97L._SL500_AA280_.jpg. It is in perfect condition, barely used. The only problem is...it doesn't have a manual and it's missing a needle.
Does anybody else have a serger like this who can tell me what type of needle to use? It came with a VHS video that is currently at a friend's house to be transferred to DVD, and I would really like to have everything I need to start sewing once I get the video back.

Thanks in advance!!!

I was just wondering if anyone on here has had success with google adsense on their blog? I am thinking about adding it to my new blog, and was wondering if it worked and was worth it.
Any advice or help would be great.

15  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Halloween Practice(Now with link to tute) on: September 10, 2009 08:35:26 PM
I love horror make up, so halloween is like a party for me. I've been practicing some new techniques lately and thought I would share. So here they are:
For this one I was trying to recreate a stitch effect. I think it looks cool for my second attempt with liquid latex.

Here is my first attempt. It is quite poor, but looks cool enough that I thought I should include it:

Pardon my face, I'm not very photogenic(or attractive for that matter.)

Enjoy!

********* I started a blog out of boredom and put the tute on there(it's long). Here is a link:http://triciaisbored.blogspot.com/2009/09/liquid-latex-how-toat-least-how-i-do-it.html. I will be posting more pictures as I continue to practice.***********
16  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Help!!! Need decorating and storage ideas!!!! on: September 03, 2009 06:17:05 PM
I have been living with my parents while going to college(The university I go to is only twenty minutes away. Why waste money on a dorm?). I was going to transfer, but then decided to wait until after I get my B.A. So now I am stuck in my 11x13 room for another year and a half.
I've been wanting to redecorate for a while. Actually needing to, because I am starting a hand bag business and my mom is sick of me turning the dining room table into a work table every weekend.
So here is my problem: How do I make my room function as a bedroom, a study room, and a sewing room at the same time?
Any ideas would be great, as I am probably going to work on it some this weekend.

Thanks!

17  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / fabric choice and other questions on bag making??? on: August 24, 2009 03:56:21 PM
Hello,

I want to make a bag to use as a carry-on when I travel, and I was wondering what type of fabric would be best. For most of my bags I usually use canvas/duck cloth because it's pretty sturdy and very durable, but I get kind of bored with the plain, basic colors. Does anybody know of a good site/store where I can buy sturdy enough prints, or can you recommend a different type of fabric that would work just as well?
Also, what type of stitch should be used to ensure that my seams don't come undone? I tend to carry a lot of books and don't want to pick up my bag and have everything fall out at the bottom  Grin

Any help, ideas, or recommendations that you can give me on bag making would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

18  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Grommets?????? on: August 24, 2009 05:19:34 AM
Hello,

I have some projects coming up that all need grommets, but I have never used grommets before. Needless to say, I have a lot of questions, and I was hoping that you ladies/gents could help me:
1) What type of machine/tool do you use to place your grommets? I know that there are a lot of things out there, but I need something that can work for all different sizes of grommet and not break the bank($30 budget at most). What type of tool do you suggest that I get?
2) Has anyone ever tried this kit:http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog.jsp?CATID=cat3113&PRODID=prd55567? Do you think that it would work for my purposes?
3) I need any information I can get on grommets. Where is the best place to purchase them? Is there a way/place to purchase them in bulk(I might need a lot)? What are your experiences with them? What is the best way to set them?
ETC....

Any help you can give will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

19  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / fabric glue...can you sew over it without killing your machine??? on: June 08, 2009 05:03:37 PM
I have been sewing alot lately, but I don't own a serger, so my seams aren't really finished well. I read somewhere that you can use fabric glue to hold the fabric together and help finish the seams. I wan't to try this, but I am worried about my machine. Will it mess up if I try to sew over the glue? Is it safe to do so?
Do you guys/gals have any suggestions on brands or types of glue that work well or other ways that I could finish my seams?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

20  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Holy Hand Grenade, Batman!!!(a couple of slightly chunky pics) on: April 21, 2009 08:47:11 AM
I absolutely adore the Monty Python quote "Holy hand grenade, Batman" (at least I think that's what it is from). I don't know why; I am just a nerd who loves comic book heroes and villians.
Well I was bored and decided to create a few stencils of my favorite batman/batman inspired quotes. Here are the first two:

The monty python(Huh) quote with a slightly distorted hand grenade that I am going to fix as soon as I get some more white fabric paint:

The next shirt has a bat symbol on the front and one of my favorite quotes from the comic on the back:

I didn't intend for the wave pattern across the symbol, but it looks kind of cool, so I didn't fix it.

It's smudged, I know. The freezer paper didn't stick properly. But it is good enough to wear at home and when I am hanging out with friends.

Comments and criticisms are always welcome.
