Hello there! I'm just a long time lurker, and finally made something worth showing since almost a year ago! Phew!
It's really not a book of mysteries, since it is blank (which could very well be mysterious actually!), but I couldn't think of anything else to call it. I'm planning on filling it with my herbalism notes and recipes, and might possibly make it my Book of Shadows. Though, I'm not Wiccan, (I consider myself "spiritual") so I might not name it that either. Though I did draw up a nice title pic in case I do...
Either way, I have to show it off! I bound, cut, painted, glued, sandpapered, and stained it all by hand! (like, how else, ya?)
And here's my favorite, the blank pages! I had to stain them (coffee and tea), but I remembered after I had them bound in folios. I took apart some and did them individually, and I also tried to stain folios at once. Since I had 11 of them, I wanted to do them quickly. However, next time I'll remember to take my time with them. Individually staining and drying the pages produced the BEST results, but the at-once-stained-folios produced interesting results as well. I also found that a hotter oven fades the color, and an iron with ironing board is a godsend.
The book has deer on it because after 12 hours of working on it, I was creatively drained. So I went upstairs to veg out in bed, and I had an epiphany! Since this is sort of my magical book, I should put my current spirit guide on it to honor him and for book protection. He's a stag, and a lovely being. Deer just had to fit in. I copied them individually from stock silhouettes, then hand painted them in with silver paint. I think it fits really well, and it's non-suspicious to my intolerant parents. (Not in a bad way, but religious intolerant.) I love it do death, even though it doesn't stay closed, but I've stuffed it in my bookshelf so it may compress the pages.
