1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Re: emboss faux leather? on: September 05, 2011 05:22:29 PM
Thanks for that idea! I'll have to go send away for some, I totally forgot about this option. Thanks again!
2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / emboss faux leather? on: August 31, 2011 04:50:09 PM
I hope its ok to post this on this board, I couldn't decide where to post and figured my best chances of finding someone who works with faux leather would probably be here. I want to know if faux leather can be embossed the same way real leather can. What techniques work the best? Is there any certain type of faux leather I should look for that embosses better than others?

There are no stores near me that sell faux leather fabric and I really want to know if its possible before spending money for shipping if I buy it online. Thanks for your time!
3  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Discussion and Questions / Re: Repainting (noob help!) on: August 30, 2011 07:09:06 PM
If you find something that works please post it:) I planned on painting mugs for christmas presents last year and spend weeks trying to find something that didn't scratch off. The best I found was using paints for ceramics and sharpies and then putting a clear topcoat over them. It didn't last very long, if you scratched at it with your finger it'd eventually come off. I ending up doing something else and now I have a bunch of plain mugs that I'd love to paint!

5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Discussion and Questions / where to buy mix of beads? on: July 28, 2011 03:16:19 PM
Hi! I'm new to beading and I have a very random collection so far, so I'm looking to buy a mix of beeds, like a grab bag, instead of picking out all of the individual beads because until I get more familiar with different types of beads and what works best for what I want to do, its very overwhelming for me. I've looked on a couple of bead sites and haven't found any, does anyone know where I can buy a decent random mix of beads at a good price?

Also since I do not have a lot of extra money to spend, any tips for how can I get more familiar with beads and jewelry making supplies? Thank you for your time!

I tried it on a couple of spare feathers and they ended up sticking together, but I'm going to try it with a lighter hairspray and see if that works. Thank you so much for your input!

Thank you so much for your tip! I never thought of using a toaster as the heat source. I'll definitely give it a try since I haven't gotten around to getting a heat gun yet. Thanks again!
8  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / great info for sewing beds for shelter animals on: June 19, 2011 03:13:03 PM
I found a blog that has a bunch of really good information you need to know before sewing beds for animals in shelters, like how big they should be and what works best for the shelters, and tutorials. Thought some of you may be interested.

9  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / keeping feathers nice? on: June 12, 2011 06:31:30 PM
Hi! I couldn't figure out where to post this and decided on here because I know I've been seeing a lot of feather jewelry on etsy lately so maybe theres a chance some of you use them for yours too. Hope this is the best board to use.
I've been making a bunch of feather hair accessories lately and I've noticed that no matter how carefully I store them the individual feathers seem to separate and don't look very smooth anymore. Any tips on how to make sure they stay in good condition? Thanks for your time!
10  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Discussion and Questions / adjustable waist toddler dress? on: May 14, 2011 03:43:38 PM
Hi! I have a super stretchy adult tank top that I want to turn into a dress for a 2 year old but I don't know her waist size and thats the only part I'm not sure how to make fit her. I was going to just add a tie at the waist that would make a bow in the back so her mom could tie it to her size but then I realized the fabric would gather too much in the back. Does anyone have any ideas how I can make the waist smaller but still stretchy or a little bit adjustable?
