I guess I should of said I use the Easy Cast stuff.
I don't make a lot of stuff with Resin so I don't buy the kind where you add the few drops of catalyst. Wink

Hi there! I'm getting ready to make my own resin. I know they recommend goggles. Are latex gloves okay? And...... How do you wash the mixing cups later? I've heard its incredibly toxic, are you supposed to just throw it out everytime?  Huh

Myself I don't use gloves or goggles. My desk where I do this at is at a window. So I just open it a little and turn my over head fan on and all is good.

You don't wash them there a one time use. I use the little bathroom sized plastic cups since I don't need a lot of resin mixed up at one time.

I learned not to reuse a cup even once. They are only meant to be used one time.....and don't waste your money on those plastic cups with the sticks that you can get at like hobby lobby...there a waste of money. For mixing sticks I use crafting Popsicle sticks.  Smiley

But I haven't found any swaps that will let someone in who hasn't done a swap yet. Sad

Maybe one day. Have fun.

you can sign up for this one Huh  the 'rules' are that you just cant be signed up for multiple swaps until you have completed one and you already have been on  longer than a month and have more than 15 posts..sign right on up..

Opps... I read this "Has completed one swap successfully before signing up for multiple swaps at a time: YES"
As this "Has completed one swap successfully before signing up: YES" and figured it was a no go for me. Sad My bad!

Thanks, Stitchmarkers!

I'm so IMPATIENT!  But I did another batch last night.  I did NOT wait the recommended 2-3 hours, so I'll do that next time.  I will post my goof-ups on my blog anyway just for laughs!  I really appreciate your response - thanks!
melissa

I know the feeling.  Most of the time I have to go watch a movie while its setting up. This way my mind is off of it.

Just as long as the bottom pouring is stiff enough to support the next layer it will be fine. But the longer you wait the better. Because the next layer will get warm and make the layer under it get warmer. (resin heats up when mixed) I have been known to leave it over night. It doesn't matter if you leave it two days or 3 hours. It will still be good if you make sure that dust can't get on it.

I will have to find your blog and look. Smiley Your welcome! Smiley

17  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: The Great Knit Cloth-along of 2008 on: July 13, 2008 07:03:55 AM
Gorgeous!
I'm envious of your goal. I have yet to make 10 this year.  Embarrassed
I'm making a transformer cloth for my boyf in red, too. We're cloth buddies!  Tongue

lol My hubby informed me that making it in blue is wrong..thats what I was using...so I made him rip it out (while i held it,he hates seeing me rip things out so i made him do it) and restarted it in red! Smiley

I get on a roll and I just go with it!

AH, why can't it be made in blue? It's a REAL good thing I got red.

Your garterlac looks awesome. I'm jealous.  Embarrassed

I know I wanted to make it in blue too. But he says its the Decepticon face and not the other and that the Decepticons are blue. So since I was making it for him I decided to change. lol

Sounds like my first time!  Grin You will get it!

For layered effects I always wait atleast 3 hours between pouring layers.

So I would mix up enough resin for only the first layer then pour it.
Come back 3 hours later mix only enough resin to cover the embed then add the embed.
Then 3 hours later I would come back mix my 3rd and final batch of resin and mix the glitter in with it then pour it.

So in short only mix up what you need right then and there. Because it sits up in the cup just like it does in the molds. Wink

I can't wait to see what you made!

20  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Clapotis Tip Sheet on: July 07, 2008 12:03:05 PM
Question:

I got hot and heavy one knitting my first Clapotis....then got burnt out. I stopped half way through it. My question is how do I tell where I am in the pattern? (I am in section 3 I know that for a fact.)

Help! I want to finish this thing! lol
