1  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Re: List of organizations that need craft supplies on: March 29, 2011 01:14:14 PM
Hello all,

I know this topic was started a long time ago. But I wanted to ask for any updated information of where we might be able to send our old craft supplies for donation.

I'm cleaning out my craft closet and I have a lot of stuff I just don't want to use any more like: poly clay, resin, misc project odds and ends. I thought about selling it but I don't know if I'll get very much for it. If I could just donate it, that would be so much easier for me. But the problem is that most of it is used stuff.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Gnomes and Mushrooms Swap CLOSED Mail by Sept 15th on: September 17, 2010 06:54:42 PM
I received!! My package is SO awesome!! I feel like my partner Saint_Angel outdid me!

First she drew a gnome on the package and put mushroom stamps on it too!

Then she also made me a card! She made the paper from her old bills!

Next, I got this cute little plate. Yay!

Her 3-year-old also sent me something! A very happy mushroom and gnome drawing!

There's this little purse with a snap and awesome lining.

She made a little stuffed gnome for me too! He's so adorable! And his hat comes off!

Just like her 3-year-old, she made this cool graphic. I think it's water color. I love it! I'm going to get a frame for it and put it up somewhere. Yay, again!

The last and biggest item is this mushroom bag! I will probably end up carrying this as a purse! It has pockets inside too. One is for pens! Triple Yay!

Thank you Saint_Angel!!!! I loved everything so much!! I don't even have a favorite because all of it is so cool!!

I received my sweet package from jmk3482 today!

Thank you so much for being such a great partner jmk3482, you made my first official swap so very special!

YAY!! That got there fast! I was really nervous about you liking everything! Yes, I made the barrettes with polymer clay and then those are kanzashi flowers too! The pot holder was a new quilting technique I had never done before called paper-piecing. It makes for a really fun design and I think I want to do more of that kind of quilting. I'm really glad you liked everything!

Is tinybits possibly referring to soda ash (sodium carbonate), also known as washing soda?

A link to wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_carbonate

Home made laundry soap, using washing soda as one of the ingredients:

Perhaps that is what she is referring to. But sodium carbonate will NOT saponify fat. It's a simple chemical fact. I have used washing soda in homemade laundry soap. It does work to clean things. But it's completely different than lye.

i KNOW what i am talking about. I am a memeber of several ecovillages and familiar with their process of making soap. Ash water can be used alone to wash the hair, dishes etc. This is how people used to have before commercial soaps and i never encountered anyone preaching about the dangers. Maybe what we talk about is two different things?

I would be interested in some source information to explain this "ash water" you are talking about.
