1  Stethoscope Bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by katherine83 on: January 02, 2010 06:08:01 PM
My sister is in her first year of nursing and I guess she haphazardly throws her stethoscope into her backpack when she's not using it... worried about it getting damaged she asked me to make her a bag/pouch for it. So I decided to make it as a Christmas gift. I came across some Amy Butler fabric in the local fabric store and had to purchase it for just this project. I hope she likes it and I hope the dimensions are correct... I shall soon find out. She's back from visiting her husband in the UK today so I'll probably see her tomorrow.  Cheesy

2  Blue Fleece & Brown Flowers & Buttons... Oh My! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by katherine83 on: December 29, 2008 09:32:08 PM
He he, just whipped this up this evening after a particularly long day at work. I often daydream of what I'm going to make on the sewing machine when I get home.

Okay, enough with all the pics... sorry Tongue

Do you think the flowers look okay with all the frayed edges or does it just look sloppy? Should I use some sort of interfacing on them if I do this project again?

3  Christmas fleece coat for my pup in Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects by katherine83 on: December 20, 2008 11:48:38 AM
I just made this fleece coat for Lila as the weather in Vancouver has been a chilly -10 to -15 degrees the past week or so. She's got a thin coat so I feel bad if she goes outside without an extra layer.

She doesn't mind wearing it nor the other ones we have for her... she's a pretty easy going dog.

Also, I was thinking of adding some ribbon for a bit of decoration but wasn't sure if I should. I'm worried that it might make it too Christmas-y and then we wouldn't want to use it for the rest of the year... any thoughts on if I should add the red or green ribbon?

4  Felt pins! in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by katherine83 on: November 09, 2008 12:07:21 PM
I was inspired by jesskreck and her poppy pins here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=277597.0

I have a bunch of felt laying around doing nothing, and don't get me started about my button obsession...

Here are the pics!

5  Day of the Dead "Catrina" - IMG heavy in Halloween Costumes by katherine83 on: November 01, 2008 11:15:17 AM
So this costume is made almost entirely from second-hand finds, borrowed items and items already in the closet... the best type of costume in my opinion.

Now for the details... The white peasant skirt was one I've had for a couple of years and was used for my gypsy costume last year. The black shawl over the skirt was purchased by my sister from a second-hand store (and subsequently borrowed by me), the black peasant-y shirt was picked up this year from a second-hand store too. The beads where some of my own and some from my sister (again, purchased second-hand). Around my shoulders is a black pashmina type scarf for warmth. My favourite part of the costume was my hair. The three blood coloured flowers where purchased from a dollar store and glued to hair pins. I did two braided pig tails low on my head and pinned them up. I also braided red and black ribbon in the pig tails to add a bit more flare. The make-up came last with a white base with deep black eyes and nose. The teeth were carefully drawn on with the help of a skewer for nice sharp lines. I thought it needed something else so I added the red swirly design. I contemplated adding more colours but thought that less is more and the red/black/white stays in the colour scheme I had going on. So now for the pictures... sorry for so many but I was really happy with the way the costume turned out!

Me and my sugar skull pumpkin.

Me and my husband as a Mexican Wrestler. I made his costume too but will probably start a new thread in the Halloween section with more pics.

I think it should be halloween everyday so I can wear this costume all the time! Wink

7  ugly shirt? i dunno... in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by katherine83 on: June 07, 2008 08:28:49 PM
... you be the judge.

The fabric was originally for a halter-style top with less coverage. However, I wanted to try out a Built By Wendy pattern and this is what I had lying around at the time. Had I known how this shirt would turn out I probably wouldn't have used this fabric cause I think it's a bit much. Also, the hem at the bottom isn't finished and the botton holes were done really sloppily as I'd given up on the shirt by that point.

So what do you think... not too bad or ridiculous and shouldn't be worn outside? Tongue

8  Blue & brown "Santina" clutch! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by katherine83 on: January 29, 2008 06:17:12 PM
So I haven't posted anything in forever!!! Call it a dry spell, call it school, work, the boyfriend, the planning of a wedding... call it life, but I haven't made anything in a looong time.

Finally though, with the help of E.r.i.k.a.'s post here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=22875.msg187145#msg187145 I was able to break the spell and make a wonderful little clutch for my friend's secret santa gift. (We're a bit late as we just had our xmas dinner and gift exchange this past weekend... better late than never!)

It took a couple of hours due to the details I added. I wasn't going to add the embroidered name on the back due to time but couldn't not add it - personalized gifts are the best.

So, here are the pics. I'm super happy the way it turned out and Santina loved it too. Smiley

9  Thinking of making my wedding dress... in Weddings and Bridal Showers by katherine83 on: January 05, 2007 01:11:20 PM
... or having someone more skilled do it for me. I'm not the best sewer but I think with some time and patience I could do it. I am recently engaged and we're thinking August 2008 for the wedding (so I have tons of time to decide whether I want to make it or if I can find a reasonably priced dress). I've been looking at wedding websites and have found this dress which I love:

Here are a couple more photos:

Has anyone come across any patterns similar to this style dress? If so, please let me know. I would never be able to afford this actual dress (its by Romona Keveza).

10  Mini Black Button Frames in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by katherine83 on: March 04, 2006 06:41:43 PM
I had bought these unfinished frames (in a pack of 5) from Ikea a while ago and I wanted to spruce them up. First I started by painting them black with a simple craft paint. I didn't have any sort of varnish/sealer so I had to leave them matte (which I kinda like). I had bought a big bag of random buttons for something like $2.99 and picked out a bunch of black ones of various sizes. I just accented the corners using a glue gun making sure to use the biggest ones in the corners and working my way out with the smaller buttons, and trying to not put two of the same button next to each other. I printed some black and white photos from my printer and voila! A cute way to display some favorite photos. Hope you all like!

Close ups:

On the side table with lamp and leapord-print retro clock:

(I still have a couple of frames I need to find pictures for.)
