1  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / top whorl drop spindle problem... on: August 20, 2008 06:03:11 PM
i just received a schacht top whorl drop spindle in a loverly trade on ravelry with some bits of roving. i watched a few  youtube vids and tried to read up, but i am not sure what i am doing wrong. its hard to explain, but when i pull off to wind the "spun" yarn around the bottom, it twists back up on itself. i am thinking maybe i am not letting the twist travel high enough up the roving? and when i do let it travel up high, it doesn't seem to get any twist at all... ive tried drafting the fibre a lot, ive tried going slower and faster spin, and it just looks like untwisted (or toooo twisted) strings of fibre. anyone have any clues???
