2  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Re: charcoal drawing of a photograph of my mother and grandmother. on: October 24, 2009 08:25:59 PM

This is amazing. I've had a similar experience with my own grandmother. She died right after my parents were married from a brain tumor she kept secret from her family until the end. A couple of years ago, in my HS art class, I drew a portrait of the three of us by combining pictures of us. My mom says I'm a lot like her, as well; my grandmother's sewing skills skipped a generation and now I'm going to school for costume/apparel design.

Again, awesome work.

Thank you very much.  Smiley

How cool is that! Our stories are very similar, except the skill  that skipped a generation was drawing and painting! Isn't it neat how things happen like that and you have so much in common with someone that you never even met? I wonder if skills like that can REALLY be passed down, you know, like scientifically. I'm going to have to google that now.  Cheesy Haha!

But one thing though, why in the world do you hate batwing sleeves?!?! they're the best thing that ever happened to me, they hide my flabby arms! hahaha. Smiley

This post should have been made last year, but I have been so busy with school that its outrageous! Did this for drawing one last year in school as one of my finals. I was pretty happy with it but since I have had drawing two now, and I am looking at this, I think I could do a little better for it now.. and I may attempt to whenever I have some free time... which will more than likely be when I am dead or whenever I can get my butt off Craftster long enough.  Haha! Cheesy

(online uploading kills quality once again. yay!)

My mom is the baby and my grandmother is the lady who just had the baby.

The actual photo was in almost pieces where it is so old and not taken care of properly (drawing it was a bit difficult with all the holes and stains) .. and it is one of the VERY few photos I have of my grandmother. She died tragically when my mom was only 9 years old and when she was alive she hated having her picture taken. So needless to say the image is very important to me..

My mom says that I look a lot like her, and a lot of my mannerisms are just like her. I still feel very connected to her, almost like I know her just by hearing the stories that my mom tells me. It makes me feel like I had my grandma there all along.

Thanks for taking the time to check this out. Smiley
