So, my jump rings arrived and i HAD to make something!

All I had to hand that would make something nice was some chain, some stars,jump rings,lobster clasps and a small eiffel tower charm.
I am planning to give to my friend Katy for her birthday

it goes to just below my chesty area but she is a bit taller so it will be a teensy bit shorter on her

it goes down to my chest and uses 20 buttons that are all around and inch big

Waaaayyyy back in September '07 I embarked on an epic journey...

a GCSE in textiles.it is almost ALMOST over.

my project is based on recycling. i wont bore you with the ethos and meanings etc...

It is an exibit piece(i will never wear it) to show re-cycling(inspired by gary harveys recycled work) using recycled fabrics.

it has taken quite a while but is almost done. it still needs the hem doing(handkerchief hem) but other than that, i am ok with it.not pleased.i hate the thing(soooo long!!!)

So, it's my friends birthday tomorrow and i have nothing

i have also just got into making kanzashi

so some shite felt, some black ribbon and a bejeweller later(some heat crystal thing i gto for xmas from a family friend/avid sewer/maker of leotards(as a hobby!)) i had an elegant and in fashion(big pendants on ribbon,that fashion fact is fresh off the tabloids girls!) necklace!


the finished kanzashi(i may post a tute as my textiles teacher wants one and all the ones i found, i couldnt understand and no kanzashi were made from them :/...)

this is the first of 3 tricorn hats im making(among other things, including reconstructing a parachute from bits of its former self.im in the play but am the only cast member with good sewing skills so im helping out) for an upcoming show

the show is about pirates, love, war and looking for loved ones.

the first hat belongs to mary glamm, the captain of the sloop john b. the john b is an all female ship(because all the man ran away to the gold rush). this has annoyed the crew and made them hate men.

mary glamm is a little bit rock and roll so i thought neon and sparkles would suit her best  
so, by following my simple steps you could end up with something like this.....


to start with, i got a black hat with a big floppy brim(well i got three.they were all £1 in the h&m the-economys-gone-to-poo sale)


then i removed the silly ribbon tie thingy that was of no use to me(but kept it in stash incase it comes in useful for something else!)


next, i pinned up the brim three times and experimented till i got the perfect tricorn shape

(one side pinned)

(3 sides pinned.excuse the face)


as you can see in the last pic, it isnt quite tricorn-y enough, so using black thread, pull the ends in a bit


next, choose suitable feathers(neon for mary glamm) and arrange them as you wish.you may want to add some stitches for security


the hats i got had a scalloped kinda edge and tiny holes where it went outwards. i made these holes bigger with a knitting needle and threaded some shiny red cord through


it would have been fine like this, but i spotted some sparkly red ribbon(giftwrap stuff like the cord) and knew it just had to be on that hat!!


and there you have it!!
i know there are some visable stitches etc but they are needed for the shape and wont show up on stage.

so, i LOVE zombies!

and i had this bear bag i had made by putting a zip in the back of a teddy bear.
it soon became clear he needed some zombification...

I had this strip of lovely fabric and no scarves to go with an outfit so i made this baby!

it is surprisingly warm....

so here in merry olde england we have postmen.

and when they have parcels they knock knock knock on the door and give you the parcel.

thats all fab

now...
when making a dress i find it easier to wear what i will be wearing under the dress to fit it (i.e tights and a bra of sorts)

and in this coldest of seasons i may throw a vest ontop.


both of those things are perfectly acceptable and normal


but what if we combine the two?

yeahh.
not so good when you answer the door to poor mister posty in some tights and a vest top.

i dont exactly have a great figure
or presentable hair at that time


and its not just that time

its ALL the time!!

does anyone else encounter this?

or am i just wierd???

i made this simple clutch this afternoon. im thinking of making them for christmas presents as they are quite nice,simple and easy to make and very personal.

so we shall begin!
firstly, this one i a little messy as i have lurgie.this means that this one want make its way into someones xmas gift(the stitching is appauling so i may make it into a new purse(wallet to you.i haate americanisms))

FIRSTLY
make yourself a double sided collage. i used a single magazine page for the 'lining' pic



A QUICK TIP!
if you have words you want to be readable then arrange them with folding in mind
like so


back pic placed right way up

the 'undeflap' pics were placed upside-down in relation to the back pic so they are the right way up when folded

same with the flap pic

SECONDLY
slip that sucka' into a good old plastic wallet!


THIRDLY
fold that baby!



FOURTHLY
get stitchin; scoundrel!

dont forget to trim off the white bit normally used to put in ringbinders!

FIVELY
take some of that sticky velcro(i used the little circles) and stick the fuzzy and hooky bits together so the stick bit is on the two outer sides


SIXENDLY
stick the double velcro circle thing to the flap


SIXANDABIT
close the bag so the other sticky bit sticks down.doing it like this ensures the velcro slines properly!


SEVENALLY
sew down the sides...BUT NOT THE FLAP YOU NODDLE!!


LASTFINALANDENDINGL Y
admire your loverly new clutch!
and possibly use it
im sure a ribbon strap could be added too!


if i do make it into a wallet is shall edit this tute accordingly.
