1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / prom dress from kilt on: August 04, 2009 07:57:17 AM
i am late posting this(prom was the 3rd of july) but better late than never!

As soon as i had gotten into sewing, i knew i would make my own dress. the night got closer and closer and all i knew was that i wanted a tartan one.

in a stroke of luck i found a massive kilt in a record/vintage odds and ends shop and used that.

The dress is lined with an old bed sheet and has contrast details of bright pink ribbon.i had a pink bow in my hair and pink nails. i wore black knee high socks with tiny white bows(i added myself),white trainers and a union jack bag with a chain handle.and a vintage french silf scarf as a wrap aaaand leopard print sunglasses, pearls and gold chains as bracelets and a kilt pin on a chain.

phew!

before-back

full length(and how i will wear it now Smiley ).i didnt wear the jeans to prom and wore the chains on my wrists. i got the jacket to wear on the night but it was far too hot in the end

in this one you can see my necklace, some of the wrap,my sock and my shoes. and the fact i became a flamingo in pretty much ALL the pics....

you can see the bag, chains on my wrists and more of the wrap/scarf in this one

I think the fact i come from a punk background and i enjoy the whole london fashion thing really shows Smiley
we british do prom punk style!!(well, just me really)
2  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / eyemask on: August 04, 2009 07:46:48 AM
I made this in early june when exams were in full swing.

I had been to John Lewis and found an offcut of this amazingly kitsch love-heart fabric and knew I had to have it.

later on,the night before my chemistry exam, i was not ready and slightly panicked.instead of stuffing my head with even more revision, i made a sleep mask to make sure i had a good nights sleep before the rest of my exams Smiley

It is made of the loveheart fabric with some heavy canvas fabric in the middle to block out light.it also has pink satin ribbon and tiny white bows.

here it is,modelled by Ann-kristin(given to me by my exchange partner Ann-kristin) the tiger Smiley

thanks for looking Smiley
(and thankyou to the lovely modly people for putting it in a more sensible place Smiley )
3  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / first ever crochet-a hat! on: August 04, 2009 07:12:34 AM
This is my first ever crochet.

i put 'how to crochet a beret' into youtube. i got the threadbanger video but couldnt understand it at all.all i knew was that they wanted increases followed by single crocet at first, then lots of increases, then lots of single crochet, then some decreases.

I got out a notebook, took some rough numbers from various patterns and worked out where to put the increases so it was equal etc.

It took about 3 or 4 hours(i watched pulp fiction and some spaced as i worked)

on my head

after finishing i put some single crochet rows on but it was too small for my head Sad
to fix this i unravelled the single crochet and just put the one row in so it still had some stretch

thanks for looking!
4  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / cheshire cat costume on: August 04, 2009 07:06:41 AM
So, this year I had my usual fancy dress party(even though i am now 16) and i didnt have a costume!

On the day of the party i finally got my bum into gear and made myself a cheshire cat costume.

It is very simple. A two colour dress,a woolen plaited tail and some ears i knitted and put on a headband.
I was doing the whole disney thing of the two-shades-of-purple colour scheme but had no purple so i used pink Smiley
(my birthday was on april the 5th so i am VERY late posting this)

It started off with a sweetheart neckline(done by gathering it at the top) but the excessive boogy-ing and air-guitar all added to the breakage of these stitches.

front(taken today hence no gather at top)

back and me holding tail

me,looking about 4, on the night.you can see the neckline with the gathers here and with my ears

me and some of the other rejects party guests.

thankyou for looking!
5  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / The queen's dresses(inspiration/interesting) on: July 30, 2009 09:45:55 AM
I'm not overly sure if this fits but hey...

This is a link to a set of photos on the guardian website
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/gallery/2009/jul/24/the-queen-dresses-fashion-display?picture=350782957

It shows various images of dresses Her Majesty the Queen of England has worn on several tour occasions. There are some amazing things there and I thought I would share it as there are some amazing shots of beading on some of the dresses that may interest some of you.

I know i'm bookmarking it just to have reference of some of those bodices for next time I make some kind of evening wear!

6  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / roaming octapus......wait...hangon? on: July 25, 2009 12:57:56 PM
so, here she is!

my friend olivia is moving to florida(Booooo!) and we will see her for the last time tomorrow(but we will still constantly e-mail!)

last night i learnt to crochet.i started a hat and then needed a break(short attention span....) and was looking at some neon yellow acrylic stuff i had....

and THEN i saw this post http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=180409.0 and knew i had to make a neon octapus!

she is very shoddy to be honest (too gappy, mouth and legs glue gunned on in frustration and loss of focus(attention span again)) but that isnt the point.

She is a going to be given to olivia tomorrow as something tells me and octapus may like some sun!(although i have seen one and they are wierd/scary/soooo cool!)

she will be our very own roaming gnome, bringing us snaps of Olivia in her new house etc.

back.see what i mean about gappy? i clearly have not got the hang of my guage yet!

I made this for my friends birthday a few days ago.

It is made of a heavy, strong cotton in a pale yet sunny yellow and some thin, white floral fabric.

By molar I don't mean the tooth, it is a technique

9  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / toothbrush bracelt with studs/gems on: April 04, 2009 12:52:38 PM
i found some great toothbrushes and decided to make them even better!

at first i tried to use a flame to heat it but that didnt work so i put it in boiling water(though couldn't find tongs so had to plunge my hand into the pan and bend the soft plastic.it hurt.)

I got a bejeweller thingy from a family friend/sewing mentor/friends mum for christmas and lots of gem things and this was a perfect use for some!

i also made a red one but it has gone!

the silver oval that has caught the flash is a silver oval printed on with boots on it(the word) as the toothbrush is from boots.i like it though

it just slides on and off

c+c=love+hugs!!
