1  Thoughts on Granny Triangles? in Crochet: Discussion and Questions by Alicia DR Hankins on: April 20, 2014 03:31:41 PM
Lately I've been obsessed with granny squares but recently found triangles. It was exciting and fun to work up a stack and now I'm joining them. .

Added a photo here and a link to more about it too.
Wondering what fellow crocheters think of it so far?

3  Embroidered Snail Purse in Needlework: Completed Projects by Alicia DR Hankins on: August 02, 2008 12:32:50 PM
I just finished this Snail Purse. I learned about tinting fabric with crayon here in the Needlework forums and was inspired to try it out with these little snails.

I hope you like it. It is supposed to be bright and cheery.

Here is my purse creation, completed,...thanks to this thread, tinting with crayons is it's main feature!

There are more photos and info. here:

I've made a little matching wallet for it too.  Wink
I haven't taken any photos of the wallet yet...that's on my list of things to do today.

Thanks for all the inspiration here at Craftster!

5  Re: any views on lap stands in Needlework: Discussion and Questions by Alicia DR Hankins on: July 15, 2008 04:59:51 PM
When I was looking into one, the owners at both needlework shops here said that the lap ones didn't get great reviews. Both owners recommended a table version or the floor stand version.
My hubby made a 'lap style' one for me.
Here's a few photos:

I sit cross-legged anywhere around the house to use it. I can sit sideways on that stick protruding out or I can put one leg on it while sitting on a chair as well. I can also sit it on a table.

It's a custom job, I know, but I just wanted you to know that the store folks had said that in their experience of selling those lap ones, they didn't get a great review and people were disappointed. Neither store now stocks them regularly. They do carry the table models.Personally, I don't know if I could part with the price manufacturers want for a floor model. I just don't work in an area that the little legs could get close enough to me...

I've managed to get most of my snails colored and embroidered. I've got 2 more snails to stitch (the ones with yellow).

I've started putting the felt fabric together for the outer fabric of the purse.

Here is a sneak peek at what the layout will look like.

I posted more photos and more about the construction here:

I really like the crayon technique.
(I tested the crayon durability through a hand washing. I wrote about it on my blog as well. It's in the tutorials.)

All the previous posts photos are very, very nice! I really like all the color and depth that show up with the embroidery!

I've been coloring away!

These 2 snails are done and I have 4 more to stitch up.
I've posted more pics and info here:

This is a great technique. I think it will encourage a lot of people to try embroidery!

I just finished another tint with crayon ...this is on felt.
I got it ironed today and am now setting up the thread colors and stitches.

I posted more photos and info on the process here:

I've mentioned this forum and this thread a lot in my tint with crayon projects. Wink

9  Re: Monkey Love in Sublime Stitching Embroidery by Alicia DR Hankins on: June 14, 2008 03:11:06 PM
I've added more to my Monkey Love coloring set.
I wanted a sketchbook to tag along with my Monkey Purse, so I'm
making a little sketchbook cover that will clip to my purse.
Of course, it had to have matching Monkeys!

I've got more pictures and more info here:

I'm off to stitch the monkeys!

Wow everyone, thanks for looking! I thought I'd like the monkeys best, but after it's all done, I don't know. I thought the bird I'd like the least, but I like the way it turned out! lol

Here is what I did to the backs.

I used some grossgrain ribbon, some stitchwitch, and Voila! They are now a bit updated!

I have more pictures here:

I've started another project already too...more Monkeys!
