1  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: February Lady Sweater Along? on: August 18, 2008 03:44:49 PM
I was doing really well with it until the other night.

I had got the yoke done, separated it into sleeves and body and done about 3" of the lace pattern for the body.

but when I separated into sleeves and body I had had a glass of wine.  And accidentally ended up following the directions for the wrong size  Roll Eyes  so I have had to frog back to where the yoke was and start on the lace pattern again.

I am doing this sweater  Grin

I found some yarn on sale in Michaels - Patons Classic Merino in Rich Red, and it was only $2 a ball... so I bought all they had.  And tehre is more than enough to make this.

Havent got very far yet - only done about 10 rows or so, so not enough for a progress pic yet.

It really depends on exactly what the yarn is and how much it costs .

If it is on sale, I tend to buy as much as I can reasonably afford.

Sock yarn I obviously only buy 1 or 2 skeins (enough for a pair of socks).

Other yarn - I will buy 2 or 4 skeins unless it is cheap enough for me to be able to afford to buy enough to knit a sweater or other garment that it would be suitable for.  Chunky/thick & thin/handspun yarns I tend to get enough to knit a scarf - so one or 2 skeins depending on the amount in the skein.

Dyelots - I will try to match them up if I can, but if I can't I don't worry too much about it and will just buy more of the same colour - then for the last ball of the old colour I will knit alternate rows with the old ball and one of the new ones so that the change isn't too noticeable.

And if I can't match the colour at all I will buy a contrasting colour and do a dramatic colour change or stripes to eke out the old colour and work in the new one.

Gorgeous sweater!

Have you tried soaking it in fabric softener to see if that removes the itchyness?

Soooooo  beautiful!

I am in awe - I don't have either the time or the patience to knit a dress - heck I get bored doing the front and back of sweaters!
