1  Re: Fiber Friday 8-1-08..!! in Spinning: Completed Projects by Teetante on: August 02, 2008 02:32:19 PM
I've been lazy for some weeks - we've moved to another appartment and I didn't feel at home enough for spinning yet, but now I got my comfy chair, loads of new fiber and a pair of hand carders and I'm baaaaack!

Here's what I've been doing lately:

Warp Speed:

Sense & Sensibility:

Natural Gold (2 shades of onion skin dye):

The Lone Tree:

And last but not least: Tartan

Oh so many pretty things!
dragonflyducky, the sheep yarn is just great!
And I love the day at the beach, the magic paintbox, Johnny jump-ups and chocolate rainbow. Fiber friday is great! I so want to do more spinning and dyeing and everything!

I had a go on black merino fiber with corespun colored stripes and glass beads:

And another Corespun "Spiderpig"

I started the "Blueberry Frozen Yogurt", but ran out of the blue sewing thread, so it's still on the bobbin.

And this is silk yarn, the first time I spun mulberry silk (the white one) which ist just amazing and gorgeous stuff.

The yellow silk is tussah silk, dyed with onion skins. I'll knit a scarf of it and attatch the green fabric stripes (which is real sari fabric) and the tiny bells afterwards

Sooo, I've been busy the last week. I had another dyeing session, it's mostly easter egg dyes and some Koolaid and Ashford dyes:

I hoped to get brown and a nice vibrant green, but it didn't work out. But this is nice, too.

And I spun 4 yarns, the first is Maraschino Cherry, my first corespun (thanks to that great video!) from pink merino and white Angora/Wool blend with red wooden beads:

The second is a Gothic themed yarn which goes with the Northanger Abbey projects from ravelry's Jane Austen group. It's black and red merino and other black & red stuff like bohemian glass beads, crochet flowers, ribbons and organza fabric and and old black veil:

Then there is a single yarn from handpainted merino/silk blend in Lemon/Lime/Orange color:

And finally "Clafoutis aux cerises", handpainted merino in violet/pink-ish and yellow-ish with dark red fiber nubs:

Teetante, I LOVE the pompoms or whatever you spun into Calendula.  My first thought was "marigolds!"  But close enough

I was thinking about call that yarn marigold, but that's rather tagetes, isn't it? I don't like tagetes that much, they smell funny, but I loooove calendula. Thanks for the praise, they are pompoms from handspun yarn, made with a pompon-maker like this one, they come in very handy. I also did a dandelion yarn with it:

But I didn't wash it yet, I hope the pompons don't shrink or get ugly.

So you watch Star Trek while doing the fiber arts?  I almost ALWAYS have on a season of the X-Files.  Or the LOTR trilogy.  Or Star Wars Episodes 5-7.  How much nerdier can I get?

Oh I also watch movies or a series while spinning or knitting.Bollywood movies or period films (Cranford or North & South is so great!) or other long stories, and I'm also through with DS9 and Stargate, and at the moment I'm watching Sex and the City. The last time I hat a go on tablet-weaving, I was watching the complete Star Wars...

Ha, I'm late again!

I didn't do much spinning this week, it's just one skein of Calendula:

I'm late, I'm late!

Your stuff is absolutely gorgeous, I really love to see what you made!

I wasn't in the mood for much spinning, but I made some things.
I had to ply the Rocky Road from last week, because it wasn't good as single. So I acquainted the suri alpaca with black extrafine merino and I think it's much better now:

Then I made some Swiss yarn, after all the Soccer Championship started right now and I'm experience it in the host country:

and I finally spun some Harry Potter inspired yarn, what I planned to do quite a time. It's inspired by the uniform sweater from the movies, but I used the book colors for Ravenclaw (blue and copper). It's extrafine merino in anthracite, and house colored stripes. The problem ist just that the yarn is thinner at the stripes than in the anthracite, because that were different fibers which were drafting thinner. I just couldn't make a good photo yet.

I also did some knitting and finished my strawberry granny square bag from handspun yarn which turned out quite pretty and I already started a second one in this manner, in Cheshire Cat colors and black granny squares.

cheers,
Teetante

Wow, your stuff is really amazing!
I was dancing around craftster quite a time but last week I decided to register and here is my first fiber friday!

The last days I made little felt balls for Blueberry yarn, here they are:

And yesterday I finally processed the Suri Alpaca I got from SnowberryLime and spun it to this:

It's Rocky Road, a single yarn with fiber-marshmallows and wood pearls as nuts.

Last week I also finished my Secret Garden yarn, which already sold...

...Forget-me-not with little blue glass beads...

...and the River of Blue Fire, from hand dyed tussah silk, plyed with blue merino and dyed mohair locks and facetted blue sequins.
