4  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Old fashioned letter......IMG HEAVY on: July 18, 2008 05:01:52 PM
So i have been totally crazed with writting good old fashion letters, i was talking to some friends about how awesome it would be to receive random letters on different topics a kind of pen/pal system was discussed....we all agreed it would be cool but we are all so lazy/busy that finding the time is really hard. so i thought i would kick start the process and write this letter!
 Cheesy
I was studying up on modernism at the time and so the letter is written by a very snooty sounding lady at the time of Wilberforce and Charles Darwin (when his theory of evolution was first put forth!) she is very condeming of darwin and the fact that he married his cousin emily! hehehehe

i mailed it this week and have yet to hear from her so i assume that it will arrive early next week!

on to the letter porn!

front of the envelope - i ended up putting the whole thing into another envelope so the ribbon wouldn't get destroyed on the way.

the contents of the letter laid out for your viewing pleasure  Shocked

images attached to mini letter - ranging from apes to man to modern day stereotypes of women

bits and pieces illustrations i have done, small envelopes with patterns i designed and words of inspiration on the back

6  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / letter to a lover.....IMG HEAVY on: July 15, 2008 04:05:42 AM
So i recently participated in an awesome handcarved rubber stamp swap, and received a beautiful beardsley inspired stamp from the very talented mamaedgar.

So i thought to myself what can i do with this stamp to christen it?

Write a love letter of course! So i decided to re-create a love letter from Napoleon Buonaparte and send it to my sister (who is married, and 3 years my senior) as a bit of fun, she got it in the mail yesterday and rang me in fits of giggles! it was lots of fun!

Here it is! - its a letter from Napoleon buonaparte to his lover the incomparable Josephene!

It's a beautiful letter, the text reads:

Paris, December 1795

I wake filled with thoughts of you. Your portrait and the intoxicating evening which we spent yesterday have left my senses in turmoil. Sweet, incomparable Josephine, what a strange effect you have on my heart! Are you angry? Do I see you looking sad? Are you worried?... My soul aches with sorrow, and there can be no rest for you lover; but is there still more in store for me when, yielding to the profound feelings which overwhelm me, I draw from your lips, from your heart a love which consumes me with fire? Ah! it was last night that I fully realized how false an image of you your portrait gives!

You are leaving at noon; I shall see you in three hours.

Until then, mio dolce amor, a thousand kisses; but give me none in return, for they set my blood on fire.

7  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / Murder Mystery Mayhem!! (IMG OBESSE!) :o on: July 07, 2008 09:05:47 PM
So I have been wanting to host a murder mystery for as long as i can remember, and i have been on holidays this last week and decided no more procrastination!!

I origionally thought of writing the murder game myself, but time ran away with me, and i didn't want to know the answer! also no one on craftster had pre-written clues to give me. So i borrowed a kit from a friend (now having played it, cant believe i thought i could write that!) so much intrigue!

So we decided to go on a very loosely 1920's theme (as per game) and we all dressed up in op shop finds. (the point was to be very over the top and glam)

so this is the dress i got for $9....thats right $9.00

I was trying to channel Ms Peacock from cluedo... It met all the requirements...floor length...green (this was my colour, we all chose differnet colours) ridiculous flouncy top....

and this is what i did to it! SHA-BAM

It was a very quick re-con, i had a blue chiffon dress i hadn't worn in 2 years, chucked that on over the top and tucked it up under the bust, then i went to spotlight and brought some cheap blue netting/tule for about $7. Cut it into an over skirt and gathered it at the back to make a bustle. sewed it all onto a ribbon, tied it around my waist! I had an old silver buckle lying around that i picked up at the salvos for about $2 years ago, i sewed some stretch lace/ribbon onto it to make a belt and hey presto! I'm ready to go. Total time took about 2 hours? not even.

image of the back so you can see the bustle.

i'm ready for my close-up...

I also made a hairband to wear with the dress, some silver beaded trim, feathers and some black stretchy elastic. combined with hot glue gun and slightly burned fingers....

ok....so enough of me! on to the party!

the girls
arnt we cute?? hehehe best boyfriend ever!!

the boys

drinkies!

Ok so thats all the main pics.....then i got a little arty so here are some more artistic shots from the evening!

hope you like! let me know what you think!
8  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Suggest New Boards and New Features / [ACCEPTED] Search results with IMAGE on: July 06, 2008 06:32:13 PM
i think that the search results should have thumbnail images (like in ebay) so i can see if i want to go into a post at a glance, it is so hard to wade through the search results here at craftster when you have to read the titles and then click into each one! especially if its a popular topic, or an old one!

When people add a tute or images to their post their could be a button to check "use this photo as cover" and this is the image that would appear in the search function.

Also you would select search posts with "images only" - this way you would only get posts listed that had pretty pictures, rather than peoples discussions from 2 years ago! Smiley

just an idea but i would love to see it happen!
i love the scroll images that appear at the top of the forum lists, i always click there!
9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / New winter dress on: May 31, 2008 02:20:47 AM
Hi there,
I made this dress a while back and was wearing it out tonight and finaly remembered to take a photo of it! Its winter here at the moment and its great to wear with a long sleeve top and a cardi! I got the fabric from Ikea for about $25 and the pattern was free! all in all it took me about a day to make!
YAY!
so here it is....what do you think??

the pattern was from burdastyle, its the danielle

http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/show/15

i really reccomend it! its soooooo easy to make, i modified it slightly and put the zip in the side, its much easier to get in and out of this way!
10  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Birthday Beardsley and Badges!! IMG OBESE!! on: May 16, 2008 06:12:14 PM
So i decided to make a gift for my friends 23rd birthday, we are both big fans of the artist Aubrey Beardsley so i made that my starting point.

My favorite image is this: Salome is about to kiss the severed head of Iokanaan

So i printed the image out a few times, and cut out the different sections, i just used bluetack to float them at different heights and then put them into one of those deep window boxed frames that i got for $4 from the dollar store.

it was really hard to get a pic showing that it is 3D its something you have to see in person!

Then i made her a card with the story of the image, i hand illustrated and wrote out all the text, using the image as a reference

inside the card

The text reads:

Salome, stepdaughter to the king Herod, has fallen in love with the prophet Iokanaan (John the Baptist) He cruelly rejects her, but she swears that one day she she shall have her kiss! By performing the "dance of seven veils" for King Herod, she tempts him into granting her one request. Salome asks to be brought the severed head of Iokanaan. When her wish is forfilled she grabs the head and kisses it passionately, and cries "I have kissed your mouth Iokanaan"

To go with the frame i also made a mirror, i got the mirror for $2 from the same dollar store and ripped off the tacky glitter cover that was on it, i recently got a resin kit from someone and wanted to test it out. I sealed the image with decopage paste before i began and then set it onto the mirror with the resin.

I also made her a little giftbox to put all the small items in - its made from a $1 cardboard craft box with lots of lace etc..

My other friend Lisa then made her some uber cute little brooch badges and some bookplates. Unfortunately we don't have any images of the bookplates, and they were her favorite!!

the brooches

I will let her post more pics of them if she likes! don't want to steal the glory and all that! hehehehe (sorry Lisa hope you don't mind)

And no birthday would be complete without cake! so we made some cupcakes! i had a little bird left over from the gift box so i put it on top!

let me know what you think, any comments would be appreciated!!
